FARRES VS MC LELLAN IN AUSTRALIA

The final round of the 2026 MX2 Motocross World Championship heads to Darwin in Australia this weekend and while Guillem Farres does have a handy point lead over Triumph factory team-mate, Camden McLellan, the fight for the number one plate is still alive.

Farres has shown brilliance this year and I think everyone is excited to see him move to MXGP in 2027 and take on the big boys. The Spaniard who has been a little up and down in recent weeks, with just four races wins out of the last 15 races won, but his mid-season form brought him the red plate and should also bring him a world championship.

In China last weekend, Farres scored 1-4-1 results, and his 859 points is 48 points more than McLellan with 60 points still up for grabs in Australia. Smiling like a cheshire cat, the red plate man was just happy to be consistent and no doubt, he will sleep well on the flight to Australia, knowing he already has done hand on the championship plate.

“It’s been a good weekend for the championship,” Farres said about his Chinese podium. “It was a shame I crashed in the first race. In the second race, I was just managing the race after moving into the lead. I was feeling good, so I kept pushing, but the guys behind were coming on strong towards the end. I just tried to stay focused, make no mistakes, and manage the lead to the finish. I’m really happy with the win, and a big thanks to the team as always.”

As for Mc Lellan, he has been the form riders in recent week, scoring maximum points in Lommel in August and also proved too strong in the deep sand of Arnhem, in The Netherlands and last weekend in China. Those three GP wins have put him in the best position of all the MX2 riders to try and stop Farres, but he knows that time is running out and it might take bad luck for Farres to lose the title.

“Yeah,” Mc Lellan said. “That was a tough one. It was a really fun Grand Prix and I really enjoyed it, although I’m definitely looking forward to getting some sleep tonight. Hopefully I can recover and feel better before Australia. All in all, it was a really good weekend and I’m really happy. I can’t thank the whole Triumph Factory Racing team enough, and I’m excited for the final round in Australia.”

So, while Triumph are going to win the MX2 world championship in Australia, their first in GP history, we all know that when the final chequered flag is waves in Darwin, and everyone heads back to Europe and prepares for the 2026 Monster Energy FIM Motocross of Nations, both Farres and Mc Lellan will celebrate with this magnificent team. As they have done all year long, the sportsmanship between the Spanish rider and the South African has been first class.
