Calendar Update: MXGP of Oman Postponed

MONACO (Principality of Monaco) 21 July 2022 – Infront Moto Racing regrets to inform that the MXGP of Oman, which was set to host the finale of the 2022 FIM Motocross World Championship at the end of September, will not take place in 2022.

Instead, the 2022 MXGP season will come to a close at the BitCi MXGP of Turkey with the well-known Afyonkarahisar circuit, set to host the final round of 2022.

While the MXGP of Oman will not be held this year, Infront Moto Racing is working closely with the Organizer for a future Grand Prix in Oman and is looking forward to visiting the country very soon.

Roan van de Moosdijk to Return at the MXGP of Flanders

Roan van de Moosdijk of the Nestaan Husqvarna Factory Racing team will return to racing at the fourteenth stop of the 2022 FIM Motocross World Championship, the Grand Prix of Flanders, this weekend. It has been a long road for van de Moosdijk, who bowed out of the campaign with multiple injuries that were sustained at round three in March.

With support from the Nestaan Husqvarna Factory Racing squad, van de Moosdijk took the time necessary to fully recovery from his fall at the Grand Prix of Patagonia-Argentina and climbed back onto his FC 250 a month ago. Now, following some productive test sessions, he is ready to join his teammate on the toughest sand track in the world.

With Roan van de Moosdijk underneath the awning again, Nestaan Husqvarna Factory Racing will be at full strength at this weekend's Grand Prix. Kay de Wolf is keen to leap into the sand, especially after winning a moto at Lommel one year ago, and Maxime Grau will compete in EMX250.

Roan van de Moosdijk: "It has been a very tough injury, but everything has gone really well and I will be back at Lommel. It has been a good few weeks on my FC 250 and I am looking forward to racing in the FIM Motocross World Championship again. I will head into the sand without any expectations and then try to build for the rest of the season. Thanks to the Nestaan Husqvarna Factory Racing team for sticking behind me."

Deep Sand of Lommel Ready to test the MXGP riders!

MONACO (Principality of Monaco) 20 July 2022 – From the hard-pack of Loket, the FIM Motocross World Championship heads to the deep sand of Lommel for this year’s edition of the MXGP of Flanders.

The Belgian Grand Prix has always been iconic, no matter which circuit it took place at, but Lommel is one that any rider hopes to win at some stage of their career. Known to be one of the toughest sand circuits in the world, the Stedelijk Motorcrossterrein Lommel vzw track is a popular playing ground for the FIM Motocross World Championship stars, with many of the teams based close by, meaning that most of the riders know the track inside out which makes the competition this weekend even more fierce!

Alongside the regular MXGP and MX2 action, we will also see rounds seven of the EMX250 and EMX125 Presented by FMF Racing Championships that are currently headed by Hutten Metaal Yamaha Racing's Rick Elzinga and Fantic Factory Team Maddii’s Cas Valk.

All eyes will be on Monster Energy Yamaha Factory Racing’s Jeremy Seewer who will enter the MXGP of Flanders off the back of a second Grand Prix victory this season, which would make it his best GP season in MXGP to date. Despite illness at the Indonesian round, the Swiss has been on top form lately and has five podiums and three race wins to his name so far, including those two GP victories. Though the Yamaha rider is yet to stand on the top step at the GP in Lommel, but maybe this season he could make it happen.

A rider that will no doubt be in the running for the top step is Team HRC’S Tim Gajser who enters the 14th round with a 125-point advantage over Seewer in the championship standings. This is the perfect position for Gajser to be in, meaning that he will not be riding under pressure. Gajser won the GP in Lommel in 2019 and twice in 2022, though last year was beaten by Kawasaki Racing Team MXGP’s Romain Febvre.

Last weekend in Czech Republic, Febvre was among the few riders who were missing on the start gate of the second race. After having a rough couple of days due to an illness, the Frenchman decided to not line up for the second heat and instead give his body some rest. This would be Febvre’s fourth race from injury, so a victory on such a tough sand track may be a lot to expect, but that does not take him out of the running either, as he proved just how strong he was in Lommel last year.

Monster Energy Yamaha Factory Racing’s Maxime Renaux surprised many with his comeback at the MXGP of Czech Republic as the Frenchman went on to win the second race and stood tall on the second step of the podium. Many did not expect such a turnaround and his strong performance took many by surprise but it will be interesting to see what he can do this weekend and whether he can repeat his success of 2021 and get on the podium once again.

Monster Energy Yamaha Factory Racing’s Glenn Coldenhoff and Jorge Prado of Red Bull GasGas Factory Racing are also serious podium contenders and have proven to be strong sand riders in previous races. Coldenhoff will be looking to make his return to the box, after missing out in the last three GP’s after building a nice streak in Sardinia, Spain and France. Meanwhile Prado will need to work further on his strength as he struggled in Czech Republic towards the mid-part of the races.

Gebben Van Venrooy Yamaha Racing’s Calvin Vlaanderen not doubt earned his seat at the table after his impressive stint in Sardinia, where he not only topped the charts in each practice session, but also won every single race that weekend. Vlaanderen showed that he is one skilled sand rider, which will come in very handy this weekend and it could be another occasion that we see the Yamaha rider finish on the box.

Pauls Jonass of Standing Construct Husqvarna Factory Racing had a tough weekend in Loket, after placing 12th in race one and not finishing the second race due to a crash. Though last year the Latvian finished on the podium in Lommel so another trip to the box could be pending.

Unfortunately, both of the Honda 114 Motorsports riders Ruben Fernandez and Haakon Fredriksen will be missing at the MXGP of Flanders, after picking up injuries at the previous round in Loket. Their return is not yet known.

Home riders Jeremy Van Horebeek of Beta SDM Corse, as well as Brent van Doninck of Riley Racing Yamaha and Cyril Genot of Ship to Cycle Honda SR Motoblouz will be looking to put on their best performance on home soil and another trio to keep an eye out for.

2. Jeffrey Herlings

MXGP - World Championship Top 10 Classification: 1. Tim Gajser (SLO, HON), 577 points; 2. Jeremy Seewer (SUI, YAM), 452 p.; 3. Jorge Prado (ESP, GAS), 442 p.; 4. Maxime Renaux (FRA, YAM), 410 p.; 5. Glenn Coldenhoff (NED, YAM), 399 p.; 6. Ruben Fernandez (ESP, HON), 342 p.; 7. Pauls Jonass (LAT, HUS), 287 p.; 8. Brian Bogers (NED, HUS), 287 p.; 9. Calvin Vlaanderen (NED, YAM), 268 p.; 10. Jeremy Van Horebeek (BEL, BET), 239 p.;

This weekend there is no doubt that all eyes will be on Monster Energy Yamaha Factory Racing’s Jago Geerts who will line-up at his home Grand Prix with the red plate! After winning the MXGP of Czech Republic last weekend, Geerts now leads the MX2 championship standings by eighth points over his closest rivals Tom Vialle of Red Bull KTM Factory Racing.

Not only is Geerts the championship leader and last weekend’s GP winner, but he is also the MXGP of Flanders victor from last season too, which means there will be only one thing on his mind this weekend, and that is – winning!

Though it will be interesting to see if the desire to win will affect him in any way, as we all know, riding under pressure is never good and could give the upper hand to Vialle if Geerts is not careful. So far in 2022, we have seen the red plate change eight times, which means any minor mistakes cannot be afforded by either one of the title hopefuls.

Monster Energy Yamaha Factory Racing’s Thibault Benistant will also be another favourite for the weekend after his success this season so far. The Frenchman has five podiums under his belt, which includes a GP victory and three race wins too. Benistant has proven he has what it takes to run with the leaders, and it will be nice to see what he has in store for us in Belgium.

There is no doubt that among the list of the strongest sand-riders on the grid includes Nestaan Husqvarna Factory Racing’s Kay de Wolf who was a podium finisher at the MXGP of Flanders last season. Born in Holland just over the border, de Wolf is no stranger to the deep sand and could challenge Geerts and Vialle for race victories this weekend. Last year a race win helped him onto the second step of the podium, with the Dutchman just two points shy of the GP victory, but maybe he can get it done this time around?

Last weekend’s podium finisher Simon Längenfelder of Red Bull GasGas Factory Racing is also in the running for the podium and the confidence from being on the box in Loket could be the boost he needs to succeed in Lommel. In 2019, Längenfelder was the winner in the EMX125 category which means he has what it takes to win on the sand track. But the competition will be fierce.

Looking at the entry lists there is one name that we did not see for a while and that is Roan Van de Moosdijk of Nestaan Husqvarna Factory Racing who is set to make his return to racing after picking up an injury in Argentina. Van de Moosdijk is another strong sand rider and it will be interesting to see what results he can deliver on his first world championship outing since recovery.

Diga Procross KTM Racing’s Liam Everts will be looking for some top scores this weekend as he enters his home Grand Prix. This season, Everts has had some very strong races that saw him battle inside the top 10 and the top five on numerous occasions and hopefully he can bring this level of competition this weekend to his home round and give the Belgian fans something more to cheer about.

Fox Holeshot Films – MXGP of Czech Republic

MONACO (Principality of Monaco) 18 July 2022 – MXGP is excited to continue the Fox Holeshot competition for the 2022 season of the FIM Motocross World Championship, together with MXGP partner Fox.

How does the competition work?

Every Grand Prix race, during both MXGP and MX2 races, the rider who crosses the white line painted on the ground at the exit of the first corner secures the Fox Holeshot and receives one point. At the end of the season, the two riders, one per category, with the most Fox Holeshot points will win the mega prize!

At the MXGP of Czech Republic, there were four Fox Holeshot winners across the MXGP and MX2 categories, which included Monster Energy Yamaha Factory Racing’s Jeremy Seewer who was fastest out of the gate in MXGP race one, while Red Bull GasGas Factory Racing’s Jorge Prado was the leading rider into the first corner in race two.

In MX2, Monster Energy Yamaha Factory Racing dominated both starts with Thibault Benistant taking the Fox Holeshot in race one, while Jago Geerts secured it in race two.

After 13 rounds, Red Bull GasGas Factory Racing’s Jorge Prado and Tom Vialle continue to lead the Fox Holeshot Classifications with 13 and 9 points each. The Fox Holeshot competition will continue this weekend at the MXGP of Flanders.

Seewer and Geerts Victorious in Czech Republic!

LOKET (Czech Republic) 17 July 2022 – The 13th round of the FIM Motocross World Championship has concluded in sunny Loket, with Monster Energy Yamaha Factory Racing teams celebrating a successful weekend with Grand Prix victories from Jeremy Seewer and Jago Geerts.

Thousands of fans, which included those from Czech Republic, Switzerland and Slovenia, among others, made the trip to Loket and lined the edges of the circuit as they cheered on their heroes, making for a loud and colourful display throughout the weekend.

It was a big weekend for Yamaha as they went on to win all of the races, with Thibault Benistant and Jeremy Seewer winning the first races in MXGP and MX2, while Jago Geerts and Maxime Renaux were victorious in races two. Additionally, Geerts went on to claim the red plate in MX2 and now leads the championship by eight points over Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Tom Vialle.

A couple of main competitors were missing from the grid, as Honda114 Motorsports’ Ruben Fernandez did not line up after a big crash in practice, and Kawasaki Racing Team MXGP’s Romain Febvre made the decision to sit out MXGP race two, due to illness.

In MXGP, the Fox Holeshot in race one went to Monster Energy Yamaha Factory Racing’s Jeremy Seewer though it was Red Bull GasGas Factory Racing’s Jorge Prado who got himself straight into the lead ahead of Team HRC’s Tim Gajser, Seewer and Monster Energy Yamaha Factory Racing’s Maxime Renaux.

Team HRC’s Mitch Evans also started well as he passed Gebben Van Venrooy Yamaha Racing’s Calvin Vlaanderen for sixth.

Seewer then closed in on Prado and Gajser and took second from the Slovenian on the third lap. Gajser looked to respond but could not get the drive. The Swiss then set the fastest lap of the race as he began applying the pressure onto Prado. It took him just three laps to pass him.

Gajser was also improving his pace as he looked to stay with the leaders. The Slovenian managed to pass Prado on lap 10 and focused his attention on Seewer in first place.

For Prado, this was just the beginning as Renaux began to close in. Prado held third place for just a lap before being passed by the Frenchman and by the end of the race was also caught by Monster Energy Yamaha Factory Racing’s Glenn Coldenhoff.

F&H Kawasaki Racing Team’s Jed Beaton was forced out of the race as a result of a broken wheel.

In the end, Seewer was able to gold off Gajser and win his third race of the 2022 season. Gajser was second ahead of Renaux, Coldenhoff and Prado.

In race two, the Fox Holeshot went to Prado, though it was Seewer who got himself into the lead, as Renaux, Coldenhoff, Prado and Gajser followed.

Gajser was able to make some fast passes on the opening lap as he got around Prado and Coldenhoff, and found himself on the rear wheel of Renaux and Seewer.

Seewer’s time in the lead was short, as Renaux charged past his teammate by the end of the first lap and began to open up a gap to the rest of the field.

Meanwhile, Evans, once again, started well and was pushing Coldenhoff for fourth, while further down the order Vlaanderen was making some nice passes as he made his way through the field. The Yamaha rider first passed Valentin Guillod of iXS Hostettler MXGP Team, then later made a move on Red Bull GasGas Factory Racing's Mattia Guadagnini and then Beaton, followed by Evans as he ultimately finished in sixth just behind Prado.

There was not many other passes, as Renaux looked totally in control and was not letting Seewer or Gajser come any closer. In the end, the Frenchman won with a 3.257 second advantage over his teammate as Gajser crossed the line third ahead of Coldenhoff and Prado.

A 1-2 result gave Seewer his second Grand Prix win of the season, as Renaux made one epic come back from injury with second overall, his sixth podium of the year, ahead of Gajser who was third.

Gajser continues to lead the MXGP standings with a 125-point advantage over Seewer, while Prado remains third ahead of Renaux who is fourth.

Jeremy Seewer: “It’s incredible to win this one, even though I could have gone 1-1, but I just made one mistake in the opening lap where Maxime got me. He was riding really well and I tried to catch him. I was a bit quicker, but I couldn’t make it happen. I took the GP win, which is amazing. I’m not giving up yet, I will try to fight for as many points as possible and we have a few GP’s to go, so let’s see where we get and I will try to win some more”.

Maxime Renaux: “Yeah, it was amazing. You know, coming back after such an injury wasn't an easy one. I already wanted to ride in Indonesia, to save as many points as possible, but it was not possible, the back was still not stable enough. But I made some really big steps with the physio to be able to come back in such a good shape. So yeah, it's just amazing. I couldn't dream of a better GP, you know, having a race win and being second on the podium. I’m just super grateful because it could have been much worse and I’m still not done for the championship. So we still keep this in mind and try to go to the end of the season like this would be amazing”.

Tim Gajser: “It was a solid day. If I’m honest, I was kind of struggling on track today in both races and I even got a little bit of arm pump, so yeah, I was not riding like myself really. But anyway, Jeremy and Maxime were faster today but I’m happy to be on the podium in front of so many Slovenian fans. Now we go to Lommel, I like that track so I’m looking forward to it”.

In the opening MX2 race, it was Monster Energy Yamaha Factory Racing’s Thibault Benistant who grabbed the Fox Holeshot as he led Red Bull GasGas Factory Racing’s Simon Längenfelder and Tom Guyon of Team VRT KTM VERITISE.

Monster Energy Yamaha Factory Racing’s Jago Geerts managed to get himself into third quickly, as Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Tom Vialle started in around 11th position.

Ship to Cycle Honda SR Motoblouz rider Stephen Rubini had a good opening lap as he made some nice passes to land himself in third as Geerts dropped back to fourth, while Vialle was up to seventh.

Benistant had the constant pressure of Längenfelder and despite setting some fast laps, could not shake the German. Further behind, Geerts battled with Rubini and finally after seven laps, he was able to make the pass stick.

Vialle meanwhile started to fade as Nestaan Husqvarna Factory Racing’s Kay de Wolf passed him and then so did SM Action Racing Team YUASA Battery’s Andrea Adamo and DIGA Procross KTM Racing’s Liam Everts.

Big Van World MTX Kawasaki’s Mikkel Haarup was the next rider to push Vialle further down the order, as the Frenchman found himself down in 10th by lap 9. Haarup was able to get around Adamo soon after that.

In the end, Benistant was the race winner, Längenfelder crossed the line in second, while Geerts ended his lonely ride in third ahead of Rubini and de Wolf. Vialle finished 10th.

In race two, it was Geerts with the Fox Holeshot that time around with Vialle, Längenfelder just behind. It did not take long for Vialle to find his way into the lead as he passed Geerts and took control by the end of the first lap.

Once again, F&H Kawasaki Racing’s Kevin Horgmo and Rubini started well in fourth and fifth, though Rubini was caught by Benistant who was looking to make his way up the order after a poor start.

de Wolf meanwhile made up two spots after he got around Jeremy Sydow of Raths Motorsports and Tomas Kohut of Osicka MX Team for eighth.

Vialle and Geerts maintained a steady gap that was less than two seconds for much of the race, until lap 10, when Vialle made a mistake and went off the track, which allowed Geerts into the lead.

Benistant then caught Horgmo and passed him for third, while Jan Pancar of TEM JP253 had a very good race in sixth after passing de Wolf in the early stages of the race.

Geerts went on to win the race, Vialle finished second ahead of Benistant and Horgmo.

A 2-1 result gave Geerts the overall win over his teammate Benistant who finished second, while Längenfelder celebrated his fourth podium of the season.

With Vialle finishing 10th in race one and behind Geerts in race two, this meant that for the eighth time this season we saw the red plate change hands as Geerts now leads the MX2 Championship by eighth points, while Längenfelder remains third.

Jago Geerts: “I’m happy for sure. In the first heat, I didn’t have the best start and I was struggling a bit with the track, but then for the second race, I made a small change on the bike, and I took the Fox Holeshot, so I was happy with that. Then in the first lap I made a mistake and Tom passed me, but after that I felt strong on the bike and good on the track, so after like 15 minutes I passed Tom and then pushed until the end and won the race. I’m really happy with that and I’ve also got the championship lead back, so it will be nice to ride with the red plate in Lommel next week”.

Thibault Benistant: “Yes, of course I wanted that win in the second race, but the guys are fast also. I didn’t get a bad start but touched with other riders in the first corner and then I was fired up to push and comeback. But I was struggling with the track a little bit and I made myself tired trying to push to pass Kevin. I made the pass and gave it everything I had. I’m a little disappointed but it’s good to finish second”.

Simon Längenfelder: “It was a good weekend! I was consistent and had two good starts. They were not perfect, but definitely good. I was feeling like I could make a pass for the lead in race one, but he just did not make any mistakes. 2-3 for third overall is quite good! I took a lot of points too. Now we are looking forward to the sand next weekend.”
