Gajser and Prado top the qualifying races in Teutschenthal

Teutschenthal (Germany) 22 June 2019 – The 10thround of the 2019 FIM Motocross World Championship season has had its opening today at the German bumpy hills of Teutschenthal where Team HRC’s Tim Gajser and Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Jorge Prado proved not to be wasting any time enjoying their previous perfect weekend’s victories but are fully concentrated on the present. Both scored race wins in the MXGP and MX2 qualification races today and head into tomorrow’s program with the confidence growing to another level.

The German round also included the European Championship classes of EMX250 and EMX125presented by FMF Racing. Saturday saw the first of the two races in each category while Sunday will decide the overall winners of each class.

While it was F&H Racing Kawasaki’s Roan Van De Moosdijk who came out of the first lap with the lead in the EMX250 race, it was Honda Redmoto Assomotor’s Stephen Rubini who pushed hard to win the race in the final stages. Van De Moosdijk finished second eventually and Team Maddii Racing Husqvarna’s Alberto Forato came home third.

In the EMX125 Presented by FMF Racing opener, it was Maddii Racing Husqvarna rider Mattia Guadagnini who took the win from Team VRT’sTom Guyon and KINI KTM Junior Pro Team’s Mike Gwerder. Guadagnini led on lap one and controlled the race from up front and Guyon rode an amazing race, coming from six on lap one to move into second on lap eight.

When the gate dropped in MXGP it was Team HRC’s Tim Gajser who took the lead early in the MXGP qualification race from the pair from Monster Energy Kawasaki Racing Team Romain Febvre and Jeremy Seewer, followed by Monster Energy Wilvo Yamaha Official MXGP’s duo Gautier Paulin and Arnaud Tonus. Febvre made a mistake on lap one and dropped a bunch of positions, dropping to 10th place.

Frantic action up front as the World’s fastest motocross riders pushed to the limit once again. After a lap the lead was more than three seconds as Gajser was again showing his hard pack skills. Teutschenthal proved to be always very technical and challenging allowing the MXGP riders to show who is the master of the dark soil. After three laps Gajser was leading by 5.6 seconds and, while Febvre managed to move into sixth place after passing Standing Construct KTM’s Ivo Monticelli and Monster Energy Kawasaki Racing Team’s Julien Lieber, Tonus crashed on lap 6 dropping down to 13th leaving Seewer and Paulin as second and third.

Standing Construct KTM’s Glenn Coldenhoff was looking fast today and after battling Romain Febvre for third position he reached his best qualifying position of the season finishing 3rd.

After 11 laps the lead was more than 10 seconds as Gajser continued the best form of his career winning his 4th qualifying race of the season while Seewer and Coldenhoff rounded up the top 3 of today's qualification race.

Tim Gajser: “It was a great day today, I enjoyed the track, but it wasn’t easy. I had a good start and I was leading from the beginning, hopefully I’ll do the same tomorrow. Today I had the Yamaha guys just behind me and we had good battles, when we arrive at this time of the season everybody is pushing very hard, I’m looking forward for tomorrow, starts are going to be very important.”

KTM Sarholz’Max Nagl was back for his home GP but after making some laps during today’s free practice, he didn’t feel secure to continue as he again felt pain at his injured knee: “I got injured in Argentina and after the surgery I was very confident and keen on coming back especially because my recovery was faster than expected. I trained a few days and I felt fit to race again. Then something happened today and I’ll see the doctor during the weekend to go through that, I think I just had bad luck.”

In MX2 Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Jorge Prado won the MX2 qualifying race after being the fastest one in time practice. Prado led from the second lap of the MX2 qualification race, ahead of Honda 114 Motorsports’ Mitchell Evans and Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing’s Thomas Kjer Olsen. Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Tom Vialle was fourth and BIKE IT DRT Kawasaki’s Darian Sanayei was in fifth place.

Local rider F&H Racing Kawasaki rider Henry Jacobi was down in seventh place but dropped to eighth when got passed by Honda Redmoto Assomotor’s Mathys Boisrame. Prado looked like he loved the hard-pack of Teutschenthal and after three laps held a four seconds lead over Olsen, with Evans in a solid third place. Monster Energy Kemea Yamaha Factory rider Jago Geerts, who has had very solid performances so far had a terrible start and after five laps was down in 11th place while his teammate Ben Watson didn’t line up due to an injury in today’s free practice which forced him out of the GP as a result of a double fracture to his left hand.

Jacobi was making a charge on lap six as he pulled up on the back wheel of Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Tom Vialle and was giving the large home crowd something to cheer about. Prado seemed to be cruising as he remained four seconds ahead of Olsen on lap seven, and Evans was a further two seconds back in third place.

Jacobi blasted into fifth place on lap seven as he pushed past Vialle, and just ahead of him were Bud Racing Kawasaki rider Brian Moreau and Evans. Prado won his 6th qualifying race by a little more than two seconds from Olsen and Evans.

Jorge Prado: “It was a good qualification race. I didn’t have a good feeling today, but hopefully tomorrow I will feel better. I still got the qualification win and we’ll try our best tomorrow.”

Henry Jacobi, who is now 4thin the championship points, is the local hero here in Teutschenthal: “it’s always good to race here as I leave very close to Teutschenthal. This year I’m racing for F&H Kawasaki and we have worked a lot together to improve the bike and to be ready for this season. I hope to have a good start tomorrow and I really wish to be on the podium.”

Watson Injured in Practice at the German Grand Prix

Following an unlucky fall in the first practice session at the tenth round of the FIM MX2 World Championship in Teutschenthal, Germany, Monster Energy Kemea Yamaha MX2's Ben Watson has broken his hand and will miss the remainder of the Grand Prix.

The 21-year-old, who is currently fifth in the MX2 World Championship Standings, lost balance in a rutted turn during the 'Free Practice' session and eventually hit a dirt wall that threw him over the handlebars of his YZ250F. The fall happened on the eighth lap and has resulted in a double fracture to his left hand.

The British star is already on his way back Belgium where he will seek further medical advice and treatment. An update on his injury and return to racing will be published when available.

Ben Watson, Monster Energy Kemea Yamaha MX2 rider: "I am absolutely gutted. I just lost balance in a rut and went a little bit off track and hit a square mound of dirt that was on the side of the track that stopped me dead and I went over the handlebars. I broke my hand which I plan to have surgically repaired as soon as possible."

Alexandre Kowalski, Yamaha Motor Europe Off-Road Racing Manager: "It is always unfortunate to see any of our riders injured. For Ben, he had a season best result five days ago at the MXGP of Latvia and the season was just starting to improve. Unfortunately, these things happen in racing. Now our main focus is to ensure he has the best medical treatment to ensure he makes a full recovery, and we look forward to seeing him back on the track soon."

CAIROLI AND HERLINGS TO MISS GERMAN MXGP WITH INJURY SETBACKS

Red Bull KTM will miss both Tony Cairoli and Jeffrey Herlings – the last two MXGP World Champions – this weekend for the Grand Prix of Germany and the tenth round of eighteen in the 2019 FIM Motocross World Championship.

Reigning #1 Herlings re-injured his right leg just prior to winning the first race at Kegums in Latvia last Sunday. The Dutchman was forced to withdraw from the Grand Prix with a hairline fracture at the base of his tibia bone and underwent minor surgery to insert a small reparatory screw this week. The 24 year old will remain in a cast and airboot for almost two weeks before he can again go through the physio, rehab and training process to be back on his KTM 450 SX-F.

Cairoli fell in the second race last weekend and dislocated his right shoulder. Initial scans were positive but the joint continues to be painful. Further examinations will take place in two weeks time to know the exact extent of the damage. The nine-time world champion and red plate holder this season will sadly sit out the Grand Prix at Teutschenthal but will then assess the state of the injury.

Red Bull KTM continue to push hard in the MX2 class with Jorge Prado leading the standings and having claimed all eight of his Grand Prix appearances this year and Tom Vialle also posting strong results in his rookie campaign.

Robert Jonas, VP of Offroad: “We had some amazing success in the last two years in the MXGP class and that has so much to do with our riders, our excellent team and all the support we have in place. Now we are experiencing the hard part of motocross but we know this is part of sport unfortunately. We don’t like it but we have to accept it and do our best to help Jeffrey and Tony get better and soon be in a position to be fighting at the front again.”

MXGP Head to the Hard Pack of Teutschenthal

TEUTSCHENTHAL (Germany) 19 June 2019 – The FIM Motocross World Championship will take the trip from Latvia which marked the halfway of the 2019 season to the MXGP of Germany as we swap from the white sand of Kegums to the hard-pack of Teutschenthal for the 10th stop of the 2019 MXGP series. Many years on the calendar since his first hosting year in 1971 with hundreds of exciting rounds of the MXGP and MX2 championships the German facility should show something special again in 2019.

The Germany round of the MXGP and MX2 Motocross World Championships will also be joined with the FIM Europe Motocross Championships of EMX250 and EMX125 Presented by FMF Racing. Last weekend in Latvia it was F&H Racing Kawasaki’s Roan Van De Moosdijk who took victory in the latest round of the EMX250, while Maddii Racing Husqvarna’s Alberto Forato leads the series points. In the EMX125 Presented by FMF Racing Honda Red Moto Assomotor rider Tom Guyon took the victory in the last round, held in France, while Maddii Racing Husqvarna’s Mattia Guadagnini leads the championship points.

In MXGP Team HRC rider Tim Gajser is coming off four Grand Prix victories in a row and the two-time Motocross World champion loves the hard pack of Germany. With the red plate attached to his red Honda, and his confidence at an all time high it will be hard to stop him from continuing his brilliant season.

Red Bull KTM Factory Racing riders Antonio Cairoli and 2018 MXGP of Germany winner Jeffrey Herlings both got injured in Latvia after a crash during race 2 for Cairoli which caused him a dislocated shoulder and during race 1 sighting lap for Herlings who suffered a small fracture of his right ankle, it means that the main competitors for Gajser will more than likely come from a long list of hard-pack specialists such as Monster Energy Wilvo Yamaha Official MXGP teammates Arnaud Tonus and Gautier Paulin and Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MXGP riders Jeremy Seewer and Romain Febvre.

Monster Energy Yamaha Factory Racing’s Jeremy Seewer sits now third in the Championship points and he topped the MXGP of Germany in 2017 in MX2 class while his teammate Romain Febvre won in Teutchenthal in 2015 and finished in the top 5 in other 4 occasions including last year.

Looking at the pair from Monster Energy Wilvo Yamaha Official MXGP Team, Arnaud Tonus is looking for his first GP win of 2019 being a Podium finisher at the last 4 GPs of the 2019 season while Gautier Paulin, who is now 4th in the Championship points, experienced already four German GPs Podiums including 2017 and 2018 in MXGP class.

The MX2 action could also see some exciting racing as a large section of the leading MX2 riders also enjoy the hard pack circuits such the track of Teutchenthal. Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Jorge Prado took victory last weekend in the sand, but that doesn’t mean he won’t get some serious hurry up from Monster Energy Kemea Yamaha Official MX2’s Jago Geerts who beat the Spanish rider in similar circumstances in France. Geerts as the Yamaha MXGP’s mate Arnaud Tonus is looking for his first GP win after consistent podium’s results.

Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing’s Thomas Kjer Olsen wants to line up to close the gap to Prado and no better place than in Germany, before the series heads to the fly-away races in Indonesia.

Also, Monster Energy Kemea Yamaha’s Ben Watson came back to something of his best last weekend and has the type of throttle control to do well in Germany. F&H Kawasaki Racing’s Henry Jacobi who will be racing his home Grand Prix, will want to prove that his early season form hasn’t left him, and holding down fourth place in the MX2 championship and just five points ahead of Watson, the German rider will be looking for a big performance at home.

F&H Kawasaki Racing’s teammate, Adam Sterry, Honda 114 Motorsports’ Mitch Evans, and Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Tom Vialle will also be looking for big points next weekend after a bitter-sweet MXGP of Latvia.

Team HRC 2018 Podium finisher Calvin Vlaanderen sits out the MXGP of Germany due to his injury at the fibula and the team announced his return at the MXGP of Indonesia in Palembang.

MX2 Championship Top Ten:1. Jorge Prado (ESP, KTM), 397 points; 2. Thomas Kjer Olsen (DEN, HUS), 367 p.; 3. Jago Geerts (BEL, YAM), 301 p.; 4. Henry Jacobi (GER, KAW), 251 p.; 5. FOX Holeshot Films – MXGP of Latvia

MXGP is happy to keep running the FOX Holeshot competition trough the 19 rounds of the 2019 FIM Motocross World Championship season together with MXGP Partner FOX.

The way it works is that 1 point is awarded per MXGP or MX2 championship race. The first rider who cross the white line painted on the ground at the exit of the first corner will be given a point. At the end of the season, the 2 riders – one per category - with the most FOX Holeshot points will win a mega prize.

At the MXGP of Latvia, which was taking place on June the 16th in Kegums Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Jeffrey Herlings and Monster Energy Yamaha Wilvo’s Arnaud Tonus took the FOX Holeshot in Race 1 and Race 2 respectively while while in MX2 class Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Jorge Prado took the FOX Holeshot in both races.
