JEREMY SEEWER JOINS KRT ALONGSIDE ROMAIN FEBVRE

The Kawasaki Racing Team will line up a strong duo next season; Romain and Jeremy won nine of the nineteen GPs this year and collected twenty podiums between them! Both ended the season on the final series podium with a silver medal for the Frenchman and bronze for the Swiss rider who has already contested the FIM Motocross World Championships for more than a decade.

Runner-up in the MX2 class in 2016 and 2017, Jeremy moved up to MXGP in 2018 and has already collected four series medals in the premier class; three-times silver (2019, 2020 and 2022) and one-time bronze. With thirty GP podiums, eight GP victories and eleven moto wins during the past five seasons he is the most consistent rider of the series and he hasn't missed a single GP since 2014, finishing all bar nine motos during his 187 GP appearances! After spending his entire MX2 career with one brand he has raced the last six MXGP seasons with another before joining Kawasaki for the coming season; the amiable twenty-nine-year-old Swiss rider will make his racing debut on the KX 450-SR during the International series in February.

Jeremy Seewer: “I’ve been racing a long time with the same brand but I feel very welcome at Kawasaki where everyone has been very open and receptive to me; I think it’s a brand where I can fit in well. I’m looking forward to a long-term relationship and hope for the best; the main goal is to win as often as possible, to have success together, to enjoy working with great people and have fun doing it.”

Steve Guttridge (Race Planning Manager, Kawasaki Motors Europe): “I’ve always been a big fan of Jeremy because of his unreal technical ability on all the bikes I’ve seen him race in the past, both at MX2 and MXGP levels. Along with his obvious driven and professional mentality, it puts him into the very top few competitors in the world and in any conditions that the MXGPs can throw at him! So, to finally welcome him into our KRT MXGP team is indeed a super-exciting situation!  Everyone at Kawasaki wishes him a very warm welcome and success throughout the fast-approaching 2024 season”.

Antti Pyrhonen (KRT team manager): “We at KRT, together with the riders, are working very hard to realise our potential in the coming season. Both Jeremy and Romain knows what they want; they know what they are aiming for and they will receive our utmost support for the task ahead. The 2024 KX450-SR has already proven its potential to be a winning bike in early tests after yet further development by Kawasaki’s R&D department. We are excited for the task ahead and will leave no stone unturned to achieve our goals.”

JWR HONDA RACING POWERED BY 24MX SIGNS WITH ALVIN ÖSTLUND FOR 2024

As the year is coming to an end, it’s time to move our sights into the 2024 season. And with the excellent riding and a natural partnership we’ve fostered with the Swedish talent Alvin Östlund through the season, always improving and finishing multiple times inside the Top 10 of the MXGP, it’s only natural for us to continue our work together with Alvin.

Johan Westermark (JWR Honda Racing Team Manager):
"Having Alvin on board with us has been nothing less than great, and it is with joy that I get to announce signing with him for another year. Hard-working, intelligent and strong rider who fits the team, and brought us excellent results. I’m excited to get started with 2024 on our Hondas”.

Patrik Erlandsson (JWR Honda Racing Team Coordinator):
“We had a brilliant season, pushing through the 20 races in the MXGP with Alvin, finding small gains everywhere throughout the season and ending with speed that at times brought Alvin inside the Top 10. Looking forwards to pushing for more."

Alvin Östlund (JWR Honda Racing MXGP Rider):
“I had an excellent year with JWR Honda Racing, feeling right at home with a Swedish team. I’ve felt happy and comfortable on the bike, and feel like I’m coming from a great year and now even more comfortable sticking with the crew I know. Working with Johan has been great and we’re looking to make 2024 even better”.

KEES VAN DER VEN | QUIET ACHIEVEMENTS

There is no question, long before Jeffrey Herlings collected his five Motocross World Championship, The Netherlands depended on a handful of riders to hand them Grand Prix glory. One of those riders was Kees Van Der Ven, multiple Grand Prix winners in all three classes, although a World title didn’t come his way as a racer, it did years later as a team manager.

“After my own career,” Van Der Ven told old friend and Dutch journalist Harry Van Hemmen recently. “I had a role with the Chesterfield Team and their rider Pedro Tragter, who became 125cc world champion in Australia, but my part was limited. Pedro worked closely with his father Hans, and they formed a strong duo. Grant Langston also had his father by his side, but he was very hard on his son and rarely satisfied. It was always about first place, and they reached the world title with us and then continued in America. Erik Eggens was also in our team at the time, and he became third in 2001. Erik was also a rider with a fanatic father next to him. Steve Ramon became our second world champion in 2003. And Ben Townley became the third 125cc world champion in our CHAMP KTM Team in 2004. He wanted to be the fastest on every track in every training- I worked closely with him.”

Van Der Ven is a quiet man, a man who doesn’t enjoy the limelight and preferred to just sit back and do the work behind the scenes. It was little surprised when he mentioned this to Van Hemmen in a recent interview.

“I was certainly not a team manager who wanted to be in the spotlight. Who had the loudest voice after the race. Who came into the picture every race to prove his value for the sponsors and visited KTM every week. We worked with three people on the circuits: I walked around and looked at what could be better lines than the rider used. And how the engine sounded and whether the suspension was correct. Then I consulted with my closest team members, my brother Toon for the suspension and Harry Nolte who prepared the engines. Together we came up with the best bike for our riders. Jocke Karlsson was a rider who apparently took notice where I stood in the crowd. When I pointed out a better line, he almost ran over my toes with an immediate reaction.”

Now retired in Portugal, this quiet Dutchman remains a very important part of the Dutch motocross history and no doubt, while his Grand Prix victories remain his highest personal achievement, his team manager skills will always be where he collected MX World Championships.
