RAM Qualifying Races Got New Winners in Trentino with Febvre and Laengenfelder

PIETRAMURATA (Trentino) 15 April 2023 – What a better way to start the MXGP of Trentino than with some intense battles for the RAM Qualifying Races which in the end were won firmly by Kawasaki Racing Team’s Romain Febvre in MXGP and Red Bull GASGAS Factory Racing’s Simon Laengenfelder in MX2.

In a beautiful first day racing in the stunning circuit of Pietramurata the competition was ferocious and we can only expect another epic day on Sunday as riders already showed great form today.

Alongside the FIM Motocross World Championship races, we also witnessed the first races of the EMX250 and EMX125 presented by FMF Racing in which Andrea Bonacorsi and Janis Martin Reisulis won in the respective classes.

Following the RAM Qualifying Races, the public in the paddock were able to come and see the stars at the Paddock Show that hosted the winners of the qualifications Simon Laengenfelder and Romain Febvre plus Jorge Prado, Alessandro Lupino, Alberto Forato, Mattia Guadagnini, Andrea Adamo and Andrea Bonacorsi and the great special guest Antonio Cairoli.

For the first time this season in the MXGP RAM Qualifying Race, someone other than Red Bull GASGAS Factory Racing’s Jorge Prado clinched the win with Romain Febvre who dominantly led from start to finish. The Frenchman looked very quick and tidy on his bike all way throughout the race winning with a 15 seconds gap in front of Monster Energy Yamaha factory MXGP Team’s Maxime Renaux. Renaux started 3rd behind his teammate Monster Energy Yamaha factory MXGP Team’s Jeremy Seewer but quickly managed to pass him to get to 2nd and keep that place until the end.

For Seewer it was another story as the Swiss got a very good start and kept his 3rd place until lap 8 but had to concede to a solid Team HRC’s Ruben Fernandez. Fernandez would go on to stay 3rd until the end while Seewer finished 4th but had to battle towards the end with the other good performer of the day and countryman Ship to Cycle Honda SR Motoblouz’s Valentin Guillod. Guillod who found himself 8th on lap 1 successively overtook Red Bull GASGAS Factory Racing’s Mattia Guadagnini and JM Honda Racing’s Brent Van doninck to get 6th on lap 3 behind Prado. He then benefitted from Prado’s mistake on lap 5 to get to 4th where he finished.

Van Doninck 4th on lap 1 after an excellent start had to conceded few spots along the way but settled for a very good 6th place. Guadagnini who was 8th on lap 4 got overtaken by Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MXGP Team’s Glenn Coldenhoff and Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Jeffrey Herlings on lap 5 and 6. He found himself 9th after Prado’s mistake and never gave up as he finally managed to re-take his 8th spot to Coldenhoff on the last lap. Coldenhoff who went up to 7th during lap 6 and 7 had to settled for 9th in the end.

Prado who got an unusual less-than-perfect start, found himself 6th on lap 1 but looked very sharp as he passed Van doninck for 5th on lap 3 and was looking to charge on Fernandez. However, the Red Plate holder made a mistake on lap 5 to moved down to 10th. He settled there in the end to take 1 point which stops his perfect record in RAM Qualifying Races so far.

After an average start, 12th after one lap, Herlings showed all his well-known qualities as he powered through the race to overtake 5 times and get himself to an honourable 7th position and gaining some points on Prado along the way.

Romain Febvre: “I feel very good and we found something on the bike that is working very well. I Finally get in front from start which makes it easier and I managed to keep on my pace so I cannot wait for tomorrow”

In MX2 RAM Qualifying Race, Simon Laengenfelder showed an amazing control as similarly to Febvre in MXGP, he flew to victory leading from the start and never got worried by riders behind him to win his first RAM Qualifying Race.

Behind him teammates from Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MX2 Team, Jago Geerts and Thibault Benistant followed each other the whole race. While we thought that Geerts would stay 2nd the whole way, it was without counting on Benistant’s determination and technique. The Frenchman got closer and closer to Geerts. Under pressure, Geerts would fall in the last lap and see Benistant pass him to finish 2nd of the race. RedBull KTM Factory Racing’s Andrea Adamo also passed Geerts to finish 3rd. Adamo was on a mission today as he breathed pass few riders to go from 6th on lap 1 to 3rd. Geerts settled in the for 4th.

Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Liam Everts showed good consistency. He found himself 5th on lap 1 and got overtaken by Adamo on lap 3 to moved down to 6th. But the Belgian went on to stay close to Roan Van de Moosdijk of Nestaan Husqvarna Factory Racing, 5that that time. After few attempts he finally got back to 5th as he passed van de Moosdijk on lap 10 to stay there until the end. Van de Moosdijk 6th for the last 3 laps had to pick up his pace to stay in front of his two teammates, Lucas Coenen and Kay de Wolf. While Coenen kept his 7th position all race long,

De Wolf on the other side made a great climb from the 13th position after lap 1 to methodically pass five riders including WZ Racing Team’s Mikkel Haarup (14th in the end), Cornelius Tøndel (11th in the end) and F&H Kawasaki Racing Team’s Kevin Horgmo on lap 10 to get to 8th in the end. Horgmo had a pretty quiet but solid race as stayed 8th through the race until De Wolf passed him to end up 9th in the end.

The other rider that had do fight his way up was Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MX2 Team’s Rick Elzinga. Following a poor start, Elzinga who was 18th after the first lap rode an amazing race to get into the points and finish 10th in the end. It also showed that the rookie does not give up and is always up to battle his way up.

Simon Laengenfelder: “I finally get to be in front after the first turn and I get 10 points so I am very happy. The track is a little bit harder and more technical and I really think I like it! “

Nine-time Motocross World Champion and Red Bull KTM Factory Racing Team Manager Antonio Cairoli was presented a bespoke and exclusive piece of art by Stefano Bressani during the Paddock Show today.

The contemporary artist known for his unique style presented his masterpiece Bressani’s “Clothed Sculptures”, dedicated to the Italian legend as a sign of esteem and friendship. This also symbolises the beauty that unites Art and Sport with the same values of effort, work and determination.

In front of many fans present to participate to the Paddock Show, this really nice moment between Bressani and Cairoli was welcomed by cheers from the public which symbolised the goal of the artist to hihlight the importance of bringing together two different worlds into one piece of art.

The exhibition schedule of Stefano Breassani does not lack important museums and events dedicated to the World of Motors, including The Piaggio Museum and the MAUTO National Automobile Museum in Turin. Bressani's passion for Motocross, which he climbed into the saddle at the tender age of 6, led him to create an Award for the Enduro World Championship and other Motorsport Raids.

MXGP arrives in Trentino for the first back to back Grand Prix of the Season

MONACO (Principality of Monaco) 13 April 2023 – The FIM Motocross World Championship arrives in Trentino this weekend for the fourth round of the 2023 season in Pietramurata on the 15th and 16th April.

The MXGP of Trentino is a special one as it always attracts a large and electric public who can admire the beautiful track of Pietramurata surrounded by the stunning Dolomite Mountain Range while making themselves know with loud cheering throughout the whole racing weekend.

MXGP and MX2 will be joined this year by the supporting classes from the FIM Motocross European Championship EMX250 and the EMX125 presented by FMF. It will be the second round of the season for these categories. In EMX250, Hutten Metaal Yamaha Racing Team’s Andrea Bonacorsi who won in great fashion in Sardinia with a 1-1 will come to Trentino full of confidence while in EMX125 Presented by FMF, 737 Performers GASGAS’s Mathis Valin will arrive this weekend for a back-to-back round after winning in Switzerland and leading the Championship.

In 2022, the MXGP of Trentino hosted the 5th round of the season and it would mark the 5th win of the season for Team HRC's Tim Gajser with a perfect 1-1 in front of Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MXGP Team’s Maxime Renaux and Red Bul GASGAS Faticry Racing’s Jorge Prado.

This year, Trentino marks the 4th round of the season and is going to already be a very important back-to-back GP for riders like Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Jeffrey Herlings, Maxime Renaux and Kawasaki Racing Team’s Romain Febvre, 2nd, 3rd and 4th in the Championship respectively to not let the leader Jorge Prado increasing his lead.

Prado, leader by 19 points on Herlings has not won a GP yet but has won 3 races out of 6, clinched all RAM Qualifying race and was on every podium so far. He shows great consistency and maturity. However, as the only rider who has led laps in all GPs this campaign, the Spaniard will want to concretised his dominance with a MXGP win in Trentino.

Renaux freshly winner in Switzerland and 3rd in the Championship showed very good composure to win his first GP. He now comes to one of favorite tracks in Trentino where he won his MX2 Motocross World Championship in 2021 and got to the second step of the podium last year in MXGP. The other rider who shows that he is in the mix since the beginning of the season is Romain Febvre. He clinched his first podium of the season in Switzerland with a 3-2, to get to the third step of the podium. The Frenchman looks more comfortable every week and is desperate to get his first win.
Herlings 2nd in the Championship who displayed some magic in Sardinia to win his 100th GP win of his career was quieter in Switzerland with a 6-4 to get 4th overall.

Jeremy Seewer is one rider who didn’t start the season in the best way. The swiss has been unfortunate with crashes since the beginning of the season but showed really good speed in every GPs. If he stays on his bike, the Monster Energy Yamaha rider can definitely be a threat in Trentino. His Teammate Glenn Coldenhoff won his first race in Sardinia and feels very comfortable on his new bike. While the results in Switzerland were below his expectations, Coldenhoff sits at the 7th place in the Championship and will be one to watch in Trentino.
Team Gebben Van Venroy Yamaha Racing’s Calvin Vlaanderen and Team HRC’s Ruben Fernandez are 5th and 6th in Championship and showed that they can compete for the top spots. Fernandez with the first win of the season in Argentina and Vlaanderen as he often competed with riders at the top of the leader board throughout the first 3 GPs.

SM Action Racing Team Yuasa Bettery MXGP’s Alberto Forato  is coming to his home GP on the back of a very strong GP in Switzerland as he went 12-9 for 8th overall. He also showed that he has speed in the RAM Qualifying Race as he finished 4th in Frauenfeld. The Italian 9th in the Championship along with his countryman Red Bull GASGAS Factory Racing’s Mattia Guadagnini 10th will definitely ride with an added support from the home fans.

The other riders coming back home are MRT Racing Team Beta’s Alessandro Lupino who went 15-11 for 13th overall in Switzerland and is getting closer to the top 10 and SDM Corse MX Team’s Nicolas Lapucci will definitely be using the home support to properly kickstart his season.

Standing Construct Honda MXGP’s Pauls Jonass will unfortunately not be lining up this weekend due to an injury picked up in the second race in Switzerland. The 11th rider in the Championship will hopefully be back in the next GP.

In MX2 last year, it was Tom Vialle who clinched the win for his 3rd in a row at that time ahead of Kay de Wolf and Mikkel Haarup.

Following the MXGP of Switzerland presented by iXS, Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MX2 Team’s Jago Geerts is still the red plate holder although the Belgian went 7-3 for a 5th overall as he crashed few times throughout the GP although his speed was still there as he set the fastest lap in MX2.

In Switzerland it was all about his teammate Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MX2 Team’s Thibault Benistant who won his first GP of the season with a 4-1, keeping his 100% podium finish record so far in the season. He also got closer to the leader Geerts in the championship, 20 points behind in 2nd place. He is one of the most important threat for Geerts.

Nestaan Husqvarna Factory Racing’s Kay de Wolf  is another rider on form with a back to back podium finish. 2nd in Sardinia and 3rd in Switzerland and 3rd in the Championship. He also showed that he can beat everyone with his race win in Sardinia. His teammate Nestaan Husqvarna Factory Racing’s Roan Van de Moosdijk won race 1 in Switzerland and 4th overall. He shows he is getting better and better while getting more comfortable on the bike.

Red Bull KTM Factory Racing Andrea Adamo, 4th in the Championship continues his solid start of the season with a second podium finish, 2nd overall. The Italian is coming home and can expect to be supported by the Italian fans to help him get his first win of the season.

Still in the top 10 of the Championship standings  there is a group of riders such as Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Liam Everts, Red Bull GASGAS Fatcory Racing’s Simon Laengenfelder, F&H Kawasaki Racing Team’s Kevin Horgmo and Nestaan Husqvarna Factory Racing’s Lucas Coenen who are fighting with the top ranking riders and look like they only need a little bit more consistency in their ride to really get to the big points.

The American MX2 rider Jack Chambers showed on his first outing in the series that he will be one to watch as he went 14-12 for 13th overall, given he arrived in a brand-new setting, with a new bike, a new team and new championship overall. He will try to improve as he gets more experience along the way. Finally, there is TEM JP253 KTM Racing Team’s Jan Pancar who shows that he keeps hovering around the 9/10th place and could create the surprise as he already showed he can lead a race like in Switzerland.

Mikkel Haarup is a rider that has changed his team to WZ RACING TEAM and will be now focus on performing on the track.

The seventh round of the FIM Motocross World Championship will take place in Villars sous Ecot, France, six years after the final round of the 2017 series, the riders will discover on May 20-21 a new track which was presented this week to the local medias, partners and political authorities.

France has always been part of the FIM Motocross World Championship. Created in 1968 the club of Villars has a long history as they organized their first GP in 1982, and since then they have organised six other GP’s and the 1988 Motocross of Nations. After two successful editions of the French Elite Championship in 2021 and 2022, the club wanted to welcome again a World Championship round. “Thanks to Infront Moto Racing, the FIM and the FFM who took our request in consideration,” says President Luc Pellier who has been member of the club since many years. “We have 50% of new members in the club’s management committee, and most of us wanted to organize again a GP” continues Luc who explains the main novelties compared to the last GP in September 2017. “Thanks to the support of the Pays de Montbeliard Agglomeration, the Region Burgundy Franche Comte and the Department of Doubs, we have changed 80% of the track to offer a new and modern track to the riders. And in order to facilitate the coverage of the event, the optical fiber is now operational on the circuit.”

David Luongo, Infront Moto Racing CEO: “France is a country of enthusiast motocross fans, and we have an agreement with the French Federation to organize every year a GP on different tracks. It’s a pleasure to be back to Villars sous Ecot, who is part of the long history of the French motocross. Villars has an ideal location close to Germany, Switzerland and Belgium, and we are sure that many fans will come from all over Europe to this GP. We all know that the Grand Prix will offer a great media coverage to the region, the department and the agglomeration.”
