HERLINGS AND FARRES, TWO WORLD CHAMPIONS AND MXON WINNERS

While the Monster Energy FIM Motocross of Nations is now a long way in the revision mirror, it isn’t hard to forget how well the two world champions did. MXGP champion, Jeffrey Herlings put together a 1-1-1 performance over the weekend and was not only the fastest man on the day, but in many people’s eyes, is the fastest man on the planet again.

His final moto charge, from a crash and then an easy victory just showed how much he has improved since his 2023 and 2024 defeats to Jorge Prado in the MXGP championships of those seasons. Prado had nothing for the HRC man, as “The Bullet” caught and passed the Spaniard and actually cost Spain a better chance of winning.

“I definitely didn’t make things easy for myself in that last moto,” Herlings said. “I think I was like 15 seconds down after the crash, but I knew I had the speed and the time to do it, so I went to work. In the end I was able to make the move just past the halfway mark of the moto and pulled out a good gap to win. The first race was a lot easier and overall, it was a good weekend, and we continued the winning streak on Sunday motos all the way from the MXGP of Great Britain through today. The podium was always the goal for the Netherlands, and we made that happen to, so happy with everything and a good way to round off this GP season.”

While Prado was beaten at the hands of Herlings, the MX2 overall was won by our other world champion, in MX2 champ, Guillem Farres, who scored stunning 4-5 results on track, but 1-1 when you count just the 250 riders. After a tough Saturday, Farres showed he is also the fastest man on the planet, when it comes to 250 machines.

“It’s been a really good weekend here in Ernée. Sunday was really positive. In the first moto, I got off to a decent start and made my way up to fourth. The second moto was a similar story and I finished fifth, so two really solid results. To finish second overall with Team Spain and stand on the podium is a great way to end the weekend. I’m really proud of my teammates and really happy with what we achieved together.”

Both Herlings and Farres showed dominant periods in the 2026 season, and both are clearly talented riders, who are in the prime of their careers. Herlings, the old fox, but still showing career best speed, and Farres, the young talent, who is just starting what should be a very long GP career.

Now, with some rest in the winter and their preparation starting early, as the MXGP season begins at the end of February in Spain, you just know, these two individual winners at the MXoN will be wanting to swap some paint in round one in 2027, as Herlings defends his championship and Farres moves up to the big bike class.
