Toendel and Lata Take EMX Overall Victories in Pietramurata

PIETRAMURATA (Trentino) 26 October 2021 – Round seven of the EMX250 and EMX125 Presented by FMF Racing championships have concluded in Pietramurata with Cornelius Toendel of Riley Racing securing his first ever win in the 250 category, while Italian Valerio Lata from MRT Racing Team KTM celebrated a victory on home soil.

Much like the previous round, this time around the racing was just exciting, with the podium being decided on the final laps of the races.

In the first EMX250 race, it was Nicholas Lapucci of Fantic Factory Team Maddii who start at the front with Mike Gwerder of WZ Racing, Rick Elzinga of TBS Conversions Racing Team and Kevin Horgmo from SM Action Racing Team YUASA Battery just behind.

Horgmo then made a quick move on Elzinga for third and set his sights on Gwerder, while Lapucci pulled away. Elzinga then dropped to fifth as Toendel got around then Dutchman.

Horgmo then caught onto the back of Gwerder as he planned to make a move, but he’d have to wait a couple more laps before finally getting around the Swiss.

Emil Weckman of Honda Racing Assomotor and Jorgen-Matthias Talviku from No Fear / BT Jumbo Racing Team collided together, and both went down. As Horgmo went around Gwerder, Toendel was looking to do the same as he pushed past the WZ Racing rider, leaving Gwerder on the ground.

Lapucci then edged out by 14.410 seconds with more than 8 minutes to go, as Hutten Metaal Yamaha Racing Team’s Andrea Bonacorsi fought his way towards the top 10. The Italian caught onto the rear wheel of Honda 114 Motorsports’ Joel Rizzi who ended up going down with the Yamaha rider.

Liam Everts of KTM Liamski was having a good race in fourth as he set his fastest lap of the race. The Belgian was able to close in on Toendel and have a chance of going after third in the final few laps.

With two laps to go Lapucci was 15.790 seconds ahead of Horgmo, as Toendel continued to come under pressure from Everts for the third spot. In the end Lapucci went on to win the opening heat ahead of Horgmo and Toendel who managed to keep hold of third.

In race two, we saw Bonacorsi take an early lead from his teammate Jeremy Sydow of Hutten Metaal Yamaha Racing and Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing’s Maxime Grau. Lapucci meanwhile started the race in around 11th position, while Elzinga and Horgmo were 22nd and 25th.

Bonacorsi led Sydow, Grau and Yann Crnjanski, as Lapucci made his way inside the top 10 while Horgmo got into the top 20.

Grau then started to apply the pressure onto Sydow for second and by the third lap was ahead of the German. Behind the pair was Weckman who was having another solid race in fourth.

Lapucci managed to pick up a couple of positions to get himself into eighth, but then made another mistake which saw him drop to 15th, just behind Horgmo.

Sydow then lost another position, that time to Weckman who fought his way into third. The German then was caught by Toendel, as Everts started to close in too.

After passing Horgmo for 12th, Lapucci went down again and caught Elzinga with him too.

On lap eight, Everts got around Sydow, as Horgmo did the same not too long after that. And then further up the order, Weckman was ready to launch his attack on Grau for second place. He made several attempts before making a pass stick.

With 3 laps to go, Weckman, Grau, Toendel and Everts were nice bunched up, as Grau started to come under pressure from the guys behind him.

In the end, Bonacorsi secured his first ever race win in the EMX250 class, as he crossed the line ahead of Weckman and Toendel, with Grau eventually falling to fifth place. Meanwhile Lapucci managed to come back to 12th.

Toendel went on to win the overall for the first time ever, as he finished the day on 40 points, ahead of Horgmo who had 37 and Bonacorsi who had 36.

Lapucci continues to lead the championship with a 33-point advantage over Horgmo, with Elzinga third with 234 points.

Cornelius Toendel: “It feels great to win. I got a bad start and had to work my way to the top. I got under pressure from Nicholas then I got to pass the guy in front. I managed to pull through which allowed me to drive my own laps. Everts was riding really strong in the end, I really felt the pressure. I felt like I needed to get passed Maxime, I got passed him and put pressure on Emil. It was difficult and I couldn’t pass him though. For sure this is a confidence boost, I’ve had my ups and downs this season. I’ve been sick a lot, just working my way back into fitness. I’m finally feeling 100%, I was feeling good the whole day, so I am happy”.

Kevin Horgmo: I was 4th or 5th out of the gate in the first race. I managed to pass quite quickly into third but I struggled a little bit with getting past Mike. When I was finally able to pass him, I was more or less alone. Cornelius was behind me but he made a mistake, so I was riding mostly all alone. I felt quite good. Then in the second race I had a really bad start, but I was also much better with passing. I was able to pass many riders quick. I was also battling with Nicholas a little bit. I then picked off riders one by one and kept going. I don’t know what position I was in, but I got up to 6th. So, I was happy with that. I just need to take it race by race without thinking about the championship. I just need to push as hard as I can, try to enjoy it and have a good feeling like I did today”.

Andrea Bonacorsi: “I feel like I am getting better race by race. In the first race, I made it hard for myself with two crashes and a bad start. In the second race, I started in front and was smiling under the helmet because it was the first time that I could start up front. I kept going and won this second race here which led to a third overall, so I am really happy. My goal is to enjoy every race and to give my best and have fun. Then for sure the results will be there”.

Nicholas Lapucci: “Two opposite races today. The first one was just perfect with the holeshot and then the lead in the race. The second one, I made too many mistakes. Nothing to say about it. We will reset the mind and come stronger for the next one”.

As the gate dropped for EMX125 Presented by FMF Racing heat one, it was Lata with the holeshot ahead of Cas Valk of Husqvarna SKS Racing NL, 9MM Energy Drink Bud Racing Kawasaki’s Lucas Coenen and Bobby Bruce from ASA United GasGas Racing Team. While a couple of riders caught up in the first corner, one of them being, the fastest rider from time practice, Ferruccio Zanchi of Yamaha Europe EMX125 MJC.

Lata then dropped to third which meant that Valk was the new race leader with Coenen in second. Bruce then managed to get onto Lata and take third from the Italian, as Coenen took over the lead from Valk.

A rider who didn’t quite get the start was last rounds’ overall winner Ivano Van Erp of Yamaha Europe EMX125 MJC. He started in around 14th position.

Meanwhile at the front of the field, Bruce was looking to launch an attack on Valk for second place and after a few attempts, the Brit was able to get the job done. Lata was next to follow in his footsteps as he took third from the Dutchman.

Coenen then stretched out his lead to 9.454 seconds as he continued to stay ahead of Bruce and Lata. Meanwhile Van Erp was making his way up the order as he was able to get inside the top 10 with plenty of time left on the clock. A few laps later, Van Erp got by Kay Karssemakers of Husqvarna SKS Racing NL for seventh and set his sights on Alexis Fueri of Fantic Factory Team Maddii.

Lata then made a nice move as he dived on the inside of Bruce for second position, as Coenen continued to dominate 17.129 seconds ahead of the Italian.

Van Erp then climbed a few more positions as he got around Fueri, then Karlis Alberts Reisulis of Yamaha Europe EMX125 MJC and Valk. And then in the later stages of the race caught onto Bruce and Lata. Eventually the Dutchman was able to get into third after squeezing past Bruce.

Coenen went on to win the race 14.062 seconds ahead of Lata.

In race two, it was Janis Martins Reisulis who led Coenen, Julius Mikula and Lata. Van Erp started the race in fifth but went down shortly after, dropping to last.

While Coenen was quick to take the lead, he didn’t hold onto it for long as he went down, which meant that Reisulis was back in the driving seat ahead of Lata and Valk. Coenen managed to get going again in sixth place.

Further down the order, Bruce was trying his best to make some good passes after starting around 16th place. It took the Brit a few laps to get inside the top 10.

And as it seemed that Coenen was going to make his comeback after the crash, he went down once again, falling even further down the order.

On lap four we saw another change for the lead, as Reisulis tipped over allowing Lata to take over the lead. Valk was having a fantastic ride in second position and was on track for a podium spot at that point in the race.

Meanwhile, Bruce and Coenen continued their climb back inside the top 10 as Van Erp made progress to get into 22nd. Bruce then took sixth from Scott Smulders of No Fear / BT Jumbo Racing as Coenen moved past Joe Brookes for ninth.

Mikula then came under pressure from Bruce who passed him for fifth, with the Czech rider then burying the front and falling further down the order. Bruce continued his charge up the field as he got by Karssemakers and set his sights on catching Reisulis and Valk.

Valk then crashed out of third which put him off the podium, as Van Erp got by Bence Pregel for 15th.

Lata went on to win the race ahead of Janis Reisulis and Bruce who got by Karlis Reisulis for third. The race win in the second heat gave Lata the overall victory in front of his home crowd, as Coenen occupied the second step of the podium and Bruce was forced to settle for third.

With just two rounds to go, Lata continues to lead the EMX125 Presented by FMF Racing by 29 points over Bruce with Karssemakers third.

Valerio Lata: “A positive day today. Good start in the first race and I finished in the second position. Also, a good start in the second race and I finished it off with a win. I am very happy for these races at home. I am now ready for that last round in Pietramurata. Thank you everyone for the support”.

Lucas Coenen: “First race was a good one. I started behind Valerio but was then able to pass him. I was in the lead and made a big gap. I ended up winning the race. I also had a good start in the second race. I was in the lead then lost my front wheel. Then I think I was tenth. Then I lost my wheel again and crashed another time. So, it was not a good race for me, but I still managed to get second overall. We will try better for the last one here in Trentino”.

Bobby Bruce: “It wasn’t really a good points day today. I feel like we are consistent, but that’s not all we want. We want to be inside the top 2 or 3 and grab any chance for this championship. Coming around the first turn in 30th wasn’t ideal. It was good, we salvaged some good points at least but we want some more this weekend”.

MXGP Set for Another Thrilling Grand Prix in Pietramurata

PIETRAMURATA (Trentino) 25 October 2021 – Round 14 of the FIM Motocross World Championship was another one to remember and before we even have time to digest what went down during the races yesterday at the Grand Prix of Trentino, it is already time to look forward to the next one, as the MXGP of Pietramurata is destined to deliver some more thrilling action this Tuesday and Wednesday.

Along with the races of MXGP and MX2, this upcoming Grand Prix will also host rounds seven of the EMX125 Presented by FMF Racing and EMX250 Championships. In the European 125cc class, MRT Racing Team KTM’s Valerio Lata will look to get on the top step of his home fans and continue his lead in the series, while Yamaha Europe EMX125 MJC’s Ivano Van Erp will hope to add another overall victory to his championship scorecard after a successful previous round.

Meanwhile in EMX250, Fantic Factory Racing Maddii rider Nicholas Lapucci will look to bounce back after a difficult round in France as he looks to stay ahead of his closest title rival Kevin Horgmo of SM Action Racing Team YUASA Battery. Rick Elzinga of TBS Conversions KTM is currently third in the series and still has time to challenge the two for the win.

Just when it seems like the title fight in MXGP cannot get any better, it always does. The Trentino Grand Prix yesterday continued to showcase just how strong the category is this season, as the top four in both races battle just within a couple of seconds of one another, making for some very exciting racing.

There’s no doubt that Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Jeffrey Herlings is in the best shape we have seen him in a while. During both races yesterday the Bullet had to fight through the field, which was no easy task, but he managed it very well and went on to win both races and add an extra 50 points to his title chase.

While Herlings had the perfect score of 50 points, there were four riders behind him who were tied on points with the podium being decided by the scores of the second race. Monster Energy Yamaha Factory Racing’s Glenn Coldenhoff, Team HRC’s Tim Gajser, Monster Energy Kawasaki Racing Team’s Romain Febvre and Monster Energy Yamaha Factory Racing’s Jeremy Seewer all finished tied on 38 points, but Coldenhoff and Gajser were the two to occupy the podium alongside Herlings, thanks to their second and third place finish in second heat.

For Coldenhoff, this podium appearance was the positive result he was searching for as he struggled in the mid part of the season. The same was for his teammate Seewer who was looking strong right from the morning practice sessions as he topped the chart in time practice. The Swiss went on to take the holeshot in race one and led the way for a total of 11 laps but was caught out by Herlings and finished second to secure his best result of the season so far. In the second race he didn’t get so lucky with the start and could only manage fifth which was not enough for a top three finish.

For Febvre the MXGP of Trentino was a missed opportunity as he is the only rider out of the championship top three that has not won a GP here in Pietramurata. But yesterday he gave as a glimpse of what he is capable of on this track, so a win for the Frenchman could be on the cards even this Wednesday. Herlings currently leads him in the standings by 24 points, so he will need two consistent results to manage that gap.

Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Antonio Cairoli will be looking to re-group after an unlucky start to the triple header here in Trentino. Yesterday saw Cairoli DNF both races which was almost a deja vu of what happened here during the MXGP of Garda-Trentino in 2020. With two DNF’s, the 10th title hope seems to be slipping from his grasp but there’s no doubt that Cairoli will fight until the end and will look to finish his pro racing career on a high.

Also having a tough two races was his teammate Jorge Prado who is struggling with a broken vertebra. The Spaniard could manage eighth and 17th in the races, which has proved to be costly for his championship chase.

On the other hand, a rider who put on a strong performance was Mathys Boisrame who had a great debut in MXGP with his new team Monster Energy Kawasaki Racing Team. The Frenchman was very competitive in both races to finish ninth which gave him sixth overall.  Following this positive result, it will be interesting to see if he can produce another consistent day on Wednesday.

And with the explosive action that we witnessed yesterday, we’re all more curious than ever to see if Gajser can take back control and win at one of his favourite tracks or if Herlings can add another perfect score and get ahead of Febvre in the championship. Of course, many are also hoping that Cairoli can get back out front and win in front of his home supporters too.

MXGP - World Championship Top 10 Classification: 1. Jeffrey Herlings (NED, KTM), 555 points; 2. Romain Febvre (FRA, KAW), 531 p.; 3. Tim Gajser (SLO, HON), 528 p.; 4. Jorge Prado (ESP, KTM), 457 p.; 5. Antonio Cairoli (ITA, KTM), 419 p.; 6. Jeremy Seewer (SUI, YAM), 411 p.; 7. Pauls Jonass (LAT, GAS), 376 p.; 8. Glenn Coldenhoff (NED, YAM), 340 p.; 9. Alessandro Lupino (ITA, KTM), 250 p.; 10. Thomas Kjer Olsen (DEN, HUS), 239 p.

Meanwhile the MX2 championship is also getting interesting as Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Tom Vialle has climbed to third in the standings just four points behind Monster Energy Yamaha Factory Racing’s Jago Geerts who finally got back on the podium for the first time since the MXGP of Latvia. Geerts was finally able to put together two consistent results that saw him finally competitive at the top end of the field, especially race two as he challenged Vialle for the win.

Monster Energy Yamaha Factory Racing’s Maxime Renaux continues to lead with 563 points, that’s 92 ahead of Geerts and 96 ahead of Vialle. But with 200 points’ up for grabs the championship is far from over. And he will need to re-group after a tough two races yesterday which saw him struggle in the starts to only manage 8th overall. Nonetheless, he’s likely to come back for the next race on Wednesday more determined than ever to wrap up his maiden title as early as possible.

Yesterday we also finally saw Honda 114 Motorsport’s Ruben Fernandez back on the podium for the first time in 12 Grand Prix’s. The Spaniard has struggled with injury as well as applying too much pressure on himself which deprived him of delivering consistent results, but yesterday he had a solid day to go 4-4 and get himself on the third step of the podium which he will no doubt look to repeat in two days’ time.

Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Mattia Guadagnini has lost a bit of ground in the standings as he’s now fourth ahead of Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing’s Jed Beaton and his teammate Rene Hofer.

The Italian had two tough heats which were only good enough for 12th overall. But it’s important to remember that this is his rookie season in MX2 and the intensity of the MX2 Championship could be factors that is affecting him.

Then there’s Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing’s Kay de Wolf and Beaton who have been lurking inside the top five or so for the majority of the season and have delivered a few podiums for the team. Both were looking strong during the MXGP of Trentino and were close to a podium spot, so there’s no doubt that will be their aim for the remaining GPs here.

Let’s see who will end up on top this time around and whether Geerts, Renaux, Beaton or Fernandez can challenge Vialle for the win.

PIETRAMURATA (Italy) 23 October 2021 – Ivano Van Erp of Yamaha Europe EMX125 MJC secured his third overall victory of the season at the round of Trentino after intense battles with the EMX125 Presented by FMF Racing championship leader Valerio Lata of MRT Racing Team KTM and ASA United GasGas Racing’s Bobby Bruce.

In race one, it was Bruce who grabbed the holeshot from Lata, Scott Smulders of No Fear / Jumbo BT Racing Team, Andrea Viano and Van Erp. Bruce then pulled a 1.789 second lead over Lata as Van Erp got passed by Janis-Martins Reisulis.

Viano then started to push Smulders who was looking to respond but then the Dutchman crashed. He eventually came back to 11th.

On lap four, Van Erp got by Viano for third as he also set the fastest lap of the race. The Yamaha rider was then around five seconds behind Bruce and Lata. But as the race progressed Van Erp caught onto the back of the pair and then we witnessed a three-way battle for the win.

Lata cut Bruce’s gap considerably as he started to apply pressure onto the Brit and Van Erp made the most of this opportunity as he made an attempt to pass them both.

On lap 12 Lata was the new leader and it didn’t take long for Van Erp to get around Bruce also, as the GasGas rider dropped to third. Van Erp then focused on Lata and the pair fought closely until the end of the race.

Van Erp took the lead on several occasions, but Lata was able to respond and steal the victory from Van Erp, while Bruce finished third ahead of Bence Pregel and Kay Karssemakers of Husqvarna SKS Racing NL.

In race two, it was once again Bruce who got the holeshot, but a mistake from the Brit allowed Lata to quickly take the lead ahead of Van Erp. But by the end of the first lap we saw Van Erp get around Lata as he led the Italian, Bruce and Lucas Coenen of 9MM Energy Drink Bud Racing Kawasaki.

Van Erp then led by 2.291 seconds as Coenen got around Bruce for third. The Belgian then also set the fastest lap of the race. Further down the field a few of the other riders were also making passes as Marc-Antoine Rossi of Tech 32 got by Alexis Fueri of Fantic Factory Team Maddii and Ferruccio Zanchi of Yamaha Europe EMX125 MJC got around Pregel for 12th.

Van Erp continued to lead, with Lata keeping close and Coenen third, but then with just a few laps to go Lata managed to get onto the rear wheel of the Yamaha rider and it was game on for the race win again.

The gap went down to just 0.817 but Van Erp was able to hold on to it and win the race just 0.610 seconds ahead of Lata as Coenen crossed the line third, while Bruce was fourth ahead of Rossi in fifth.

With a second and a race win, Van Erp finished the day on the top step of the podium while Lata finished second and Bruce was third.

Lata continues to lead the EMX125 Presented by FMF Racing championship standings 20 points over Bruce, while Karssemakers is a further 20 points behind. The European 125cc Championship will continue on Tuesday for the round of Pietramurata.

Ivano Van Erp: “I felt good all day long in free and time practice. In the first race my start was not so great, and I had to come from seventh place, just got my concertation and got to third I think. Then I saw on my pit board eight seconds to Bobby and Valerio. I managed to cut the gap and have a nice battle in the end of the race with Valerio and then in the second race I had a better start and then on the second lap I passed Valerio, had good focus for the rest of the race to take the win so I am very happy”.

Valerio Lata: “Today it was quite difficult in the races but I had a good first race and took the victory and then in the second race I got a good start but Ivano was very fast, so I finished second. Now I’m ready for the next race here in Pietramurata.

Bobby Bruce: “We got two good starts today which was really good. I led a good amount of the race in the first one and just tensed up a bit. We didn’t really have so much time in between the races to get a good bike set-up, but I feel we’re making good progress. In the second race I felt good but the guys in front just had better pace today. I am excited for Tuesday to do it all again”.

MXGP Set for Intense Triple-Header in Trentino

MONACO (Principality of Monaco) 20 October 2021 – MXGP continues its intense season with round 14 of the FIM Motocross World Championship this weekend in Pietramurata, Italy, for the MXGP of Trentino.

The Grand Prix of Trentino will be the first of a trio of races taking place at the breath-taking Pietramurata venue this weekend as the fierce battle for the title carries on.

While five rounds remain of the MXGP and MX2 World Championship, this weekend we will see the finale of the FIM Women’s Motocross World Championship as Bike it MTX Kawasaki rider Courtney Duncan will look to secure her third WMX World Title. But Kiara Fontanesi will no doubt put up a fight as the Italian is just 16 points behind the Kiwi heading into the final round. Ceres 71 Racing’s Nancy Van De Ven is third in the standings a further 12 points behind Fontanesi, so the championship is far from over, and as always in this sport, anything can happen.

Additionally, we will see round six of the EMX125 Presented by FMF Racing championship as MRT Racing Team KTM’s Valerio Lata will enter his home round with the red plate. The Italian leads the series 11 points over ASA United GasGas Racing Team’s Bobby Bruce and Kay Karssemakers of Husqvarna SKS Racing NL who is just five points behind the Brit.

Also entered for the European 125cc races are EMX85 Finals top three Marek Vitezslav who wrapped up the title in Sardinia, while Janis Martins Reisulis and Lotte van Drunen who were second and third will also line-up for the races as they make the move up to the bigger class.

The MXGP of Trentino is set to be a fiery one as huge fan support is expected at the spectacular Pietramurata venue and what’s more is that the paddock is finally open to the public which means fans can get even closer to their heroes!

Entering the MXGP of Trentino, Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Jeffrey Herlings leads the MXGP standings by 12 points over Monster Energy Kawasaki Racing Team’s Romain Febvre. Herlings added another overall victory at the MXGP of Spain, making it his 96th career, while Febvre had a mixture of a weekend. The Frenchman went on to win race one in incredible fashion but was much unluckier in race two, managing to fight back to seventh place.

Team HRC’s Tim Gajser remains third in the championship but is just three points behind Febvre and this upcoming weekend will be a chance for the Slovenian to claw back some points and hopefully get closer to the lead. Last season Gajser won two out of the three GPs in Pietramurata and also secured his fourth world title there, so the place holds fond memories for the Honda rider who could get back on the top step and even get the red plate back by the end of it.

Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Antonio Cairoli also could find himself back on top at his home round also, especially after his victory there last season. But Cairoli has been struggling during the last several GPs. He’s struggled to get inside the top three but has battled well inside the top 10. It’s not clear whether it’s the crash from Sardinia that’s affecting the 9-time world champ or whether it’s something else, but hopefully the home support in Trentino will give him the boost he needs to finish off his racing career on a high at the last five rounds.

His teammate Jorge Prado was impressive at his home round just a week ago, as he fought hard at the front of the field in both races. This was somewhat of a surprise considering the fact that he struggled so much in France the previous weekend. The incredible home support must’ve given a huge adrenaline kick and hopefully he can carry that momentum into the remaining rounds as he remains fourth in the standings, 50 points behind Gajser.

Monster Energy Yamaha Factory Racing’s Jeremy Seewer seemed to be back to his old self in Spain, as the Swiss battled at the front with the likes of Febvre, Gajser, Prado and Herlings. Seewer finished the weekend seventh overall, while his teammate Glenn Coldenhoff placed 13th. The third factory Yamaha rider, Ben Watson had another tough weekend, after twisting his ankle before the Spanish Grand Prix which made racing harder. He was 19th in race one but failed to line-up for race two. Watson will now return to Trentino, a place where he secured an overall victory as he finished off his MX2 career in the best way possible. And with that memory hopefully fresh on his mind, this could give him a much-needed boost.

Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing’s Thomas Kjer Olsen will head to Trentino after some good races there last season. The Dane finished second on the podium at the MXGP of Trentino so will no doubt will search for more positive results as he nears the final races of his rookie season in MXGP.

One of the most talked about things entering the weekend has to be the pending debut of Mathys Boisrame with his new team Monster Energy Kawasaki Racing Team. The Frenchman has joined the factory Kawasaki team for the remaining Italian rounds, replacing injured Ivo Monticelli. For Boisrame this is an important opportunity to show his abilities as he looks to move up to the MXGP class in 2022.

But this weekend will be a big one for the home riders Alessandro Lupino of MRT Racing Team KTM and Alberto Forato of SM Action Racing Team YUASA Battery who will want to put on their best performance for the Italian fans. Both Lupino and Forato have had some very positive results this season and hopefully they get do the same again in Trentino.

Meanwhile this weekend we will see the return of the former world champion David Philippaerts as he will make a wildcard appearance, along with Morgan Lesiardo and Andrea La Scala who will also line-up for the MXGP races.

Meanwhile in MX2, the title chase is a little more relaxed as Monster Energy Yamaha Factory Racing’s Maxime Renaux has full control of the red plate. The Frenchman is 108 points ahead of his teammate Jago Geerts, while Geerts begins to come under pressure from Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Mattia Guadagnini who is just a single point behind him!

Renaux had a strong weekend in Spain as he obtained his fourth Grand prix victory of 2021. The victory must’ve been a big step for the Frenchman mentally as he continued to prove that he is able to challenge Tom Vialle of Red Bull KTM Factory Racing who had been dominant at the last few races.

Vialle finished second overall last weekend after struggling to find his rhythm in the second heat and will no doubt be looking to be on the top step in Trentino, where he claimed his maiden MX2 world title this season.

Geerts had a chance to get himself on the podium in Spain, but once again fell short as he finished sixth overall after a hard first race. The Belgian was 13th in race one after crashes once again cost him vital positions and points, but he was however able to make a comeback in race two to finish second behind his teammate. The final five GPs will be a real test for the title contender, as he will need to keep it on two wheels and deliver some consistent results to keep the championship chase alive and avoid being caught by Guadagnini.

Meanwhile Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing’s Jed Beaton added a third podium to his season tally last weekend and will no doubt be motivated to carry this energy into the MXGP of Trentino. Last season, Beaton finished on the podium once out of the three races in Pietramurata, so if he can get the start, there is no doubt he will be challenging for top positions once again as he looks to end his MX2 career on a positive note. His teammate Kay de Wolf will want to do the same after a hard race in Arroyomolinos.

While Renaux and Geerts will be focused on going for the win, the third Monster Energy Yamaha Factory rider Thibault Benistant will have the same motivation. While Benistant only has one podium this season, he has consistently been fighting inside the top 10. Last season Benistant made line-up for his first MX2 race in Trentino after he wrapped up his EMX250 title and the result that he delivered on that occasion was pretty remarkable. While he missed out on a podium spot, he did however finish second in the second heat. It will be interesting what he can do this season, as he nears the end of his rookie season in MX2.

Of course, this weekend the focus will be on the home rider, Guadagnini, who will look to get back on the box and deliver some consistent results to stay in the title fight and have the chance to take over second place from Geerts.

Keen to perform well on home soil as well will be Andrea Adamo of SM Action Racing Team YUASA Battery, Gianluca Facchetti and Filippo Zonta who recently signed with Honda Assomotor. And making a wildcard appearance in MX2 are Giuseppe Tropepe of Millionair Racing Team and Emilio Scuteri.
