SHANGHAI (China) 10th September 2026 – Infront Moto Racing, together with the FIM, is pleased to announce the provisional calendar of the 2027 FIM Motocross World Championship. Twenty Grands Prix spread across four continents will decide the MXGP and MX2 world titles, with the season opening in Andalucia on 28 February and the year closing at the Monster Energy FIM Motocross of Nations at Assen on 10 October.

In the beautiful region of Andalucia, Almonte will open proceedings with the MXGP of Andalucia, the Spanish venue that joined the calendar in 2026 and now takes on the role of season opener for both MXGP and MX2, along with WMX and EMX125 on the programme. Two weeks later the paddock crosses the Atlantic for the MXGP of Argentina on 14 March, as the much-appreciated venue of Bariloche welcomes MXGP for a second consecutive year.

The Paddock then comes back to Europe for a strong spring period. The MXGP of Italy on 28 March at Montevarchi, is directly followed by the MXGP of Sardegna at Riola Sardo on 4 April. Then the MXGP of Spain on 18 April, where the location is also to be announced, and the MXGP of Trentino at Pietramurata on 25 April.

May opens away from Europe. The MXGP of China returns to Shanghai on 2 May, moving from its September date into a spring slot that places one of the fastest growing markets in world motocross at the heart of the season. The Grand Prix also falls within the Labour Day holiday, one of the biggest public holidays in the Chinese calendar and a period of national celebration that brings the country together. To race in Shanghai across that weekend is a great honour for the championship and promises an exceptional atmosphere at the circuit.

The European core of the calendar then runs from late May to the end of June, with the MXGP of Portugal on 23 May at a venue to be announced, the MXGP of France on 30 May returns to Saint Jean d’Angély, the Charente-Maritime venue that last staged a Grand Prix in 2025, the MXGP of Latvia at Kegums on 13 June, the MXGP of Germany at Teutschenthal on 20 June and the MXGP of Great Britain at Foxhills on 27 June. In Foxhills, the presence of EMX250 was an essential part of the discussions around the British round. Adding the class was an important decision and a vital one for the future of British motocross, giving the country’s most talented young riders the opportunity to race at home in front of their own crowd.

A pause in July gives teams and riders a genuine mid season reset, and it is during that period that the FIM Junior Motocross World Championship takes place at Pärnu in Estonia on 18 July. Racing resumes with two of the most demanding weekends of the year, the MXGP of Czech Republic at Loket on 25 July and the MXGP of Flanders at Lommel on 1 August.

The run to the finish opens with the MXGP of Sweden at Uddevalla on 15 August and the MXGP of the Netherlands at Arnhem on 22 August, before the MXGP of Türkiye at Afyonkarahisar on 5 September. A further Grand Prix is scheduled for 12 September, with the host country and venue to be announced, and the MXGP of Australia at Darwin follows on 19 September. The championship then closes back in Europe, the MXGP of Switzerland on 3 October, at a venue to be confirmed, bringing down the curtain on the season one week before the Monster Energy FIM Motocross of Nations in The Netherlands at Assen.

THE SUPPORTING CHAMPIONSHIPS

The FIM Women’s Motocross World Championship contests six rounds in 2027. WMX opens alongside the MXGP of Andalucia on 28 February and then races at the MXGP of Italy, the MXGP of Germany at Teutschenthal, the MXGP of the Netherlands at Arnhem, the MXGP of Türkiye at Afyonkarahisar and the MXGP of Australia at Darwin, where the title will be settled.

The FIM Europe classes again form the backbone of the support programme. EMX125 presented by FMF Racing opens its campaign alongside MXGP in Andalucia on 28 February and races eleven times, while EMX250 begins in Sardegna on 4 April and races twelve times, both series concluding at the MXGP of Switzerland on 3 October. EMX Open joins in at Lommel on 1 August, and Loket hosts the EMX65, EMX85 and EMX2T classes on 25 July. The Motocross of European Nations is scheduled for 12 September at a venue to be confirmed.

The season is completed by the Monster Energy FIM Motocross of Nations at Assen on 10 October. The Dutch venue last staged the event in 2019, when the Netherlands won on home soil in front of a capacity crowd, and its return is one of the most anticipated dates of the 2027 season. The Yamaha BLU CRU programme will again feature on the Nations weekend.

ARNHEM (Netherlands) 23 August 2026 — The penultimate round of the 2026 FIM Women’s Motocross World Championship in the Dutch sand of Arnhem produced a flawless weekend for De Baets-AIT Yamaha Supported Team’s Lotte Van Drunen, who led every single lap of both races in front of her home crowd for a dominant 1-1 and maximum 50 points. RFME Spain National Team’s Daniela Guillen was the other big winner, backing up two second places with the championship red plate, which she takes back from Kiara Fontanesi with one round to go. Lucy Barker was the revelation of the weekend with her best race result of the season in Race 2.

Fontanesi arrived in the Netherlands two points clear at the top of the standings and leaves it six behind, having ridden all weekend while ill and sore following a heavy crash in time practice. The title will now be settled at the final round in Australia.

In Race 1, it was Shana Van Der Vlist who led the way into the first corner, diving up the inside with JK Racing Yamaha’s Nellie Fransson alongside her on the outside, while Danee Gelissen and Van Drunen forced their way to the front of the chasing group within the opening corners. Fontanesi ran fifth in the early exchanges, and Guillen had the biggest job of all after slipping back to 13th.

The lead did not last long. Van Der Vlist made a mistake and ran wide at turn seven, and Van Drunen was through at the start of the following straight and clear by the end of it. The opening lap took a heavy toll elsewhere: Fontanesi went down from fifth and remounted eighth, and Gelissen crashed over the jump at turn six while running inside the top five, a fall that eventually left her 12th.

From that moment Race 1 belonged to Van Drunen. The reigning World Champion set the fastest lap of the race on lap two, a 1:59.573 at an average of 49.978km/h, and simply pulled away, controlling all 12 laps and taking the chequered flag 28.498 seconds clear for a maximum 25 points.

The charge of the race came from Guillen. Seventh by the end of the opening lap, the Spaniard was fourth by lap two, took third from Dixon Racing Team Kawasaki’s Courtney Duncan on lap five and then set about Van Der Vlist, applying pressure until the move finally stuck on lap ten. Second place and 22 points were enough to move her ahead of Fontanesi at the top of the standings. Van Der Vlist, who had led the opening corners and run second for the first nine laps, held on for a strong third, 1.067 seconds behind Guillen at the flag.

Behind them, Barker was the early mover, passing Fransson around the outside to take fifth on lap three and then holding off Fontanesi for several laps until a mistake in a right-hander allowed the Italian through on lap six. Fontanesi’s recovery was completed on the penultimate lap when Duncan crashed, promoting her to fourth. Duncan remounted to salvage fifth, 1.143 seconds adrift.

Barker took sixth, while Malou Jakobsen climbed from 11th on the opening lap to seventh and Amandine Verstappen finished eighth. Fransson faded from the front of the field in the early laps to ninth, with Jenitty Van Der Beek completing the top ten ahead of Mathea Seleboe and Gelissen. TEAM Honda Motoblouz SR Motul’s April Franzoni did not take the start.

Race 2 began with a flying start from the number one plate. Van Drunen got the jump, drifted across and took control of the inside line through turn one, and from there she was never headed. Fransson was again the early aggressor in second, with Fontanesi third and Barker fourth, while Guillen came around the outside.

By the end of the opening lap Barker had moved up to second with Guillen third, and on lap two the Spaniard went past the British rider to take up the chase. It made no difference to the outcome. Van Drunen set the fastest lap of the race on the very first tour, a 2:02.383 and controlled the remaining 11 laps to win by 21 seconds.

Fontanesi, only sixth at the end of lap one, needed time to find her rhythm. She worked her way past Fransson and then set about Van Der Vlist, making the move stick on lap four to take fourth, a position she held to the flag.

The one moment of drama at the front came late. Guillen, who had built a cushion of around seven seconds over Barker, crashed heavily on lap ten and lost second place. With two laps remaining she picked herself up, hunted the British rider back down and retook the position, a swap worth two championship points that she could not afford to concede. Barker held on for third, her best race result of the season.

Van Der Vlist completed the top five ahead of Gelissen, who bounced back from her Race 1 crash with a strong sixth, and Jakobsen in seventh. Duncan produced the recovery ride of the race, climbing from 16th on the opening lap to eighth, with Verstappen ninth and Fransson tenth. Franzoni again did not take the start.

Van Drunen’s 1-1 gave her the overall win with a maximum 50 points, a third victory from four visits to this Grand Prix, and lifted her to third in the championship. Guillen’s 2-2 was worth 44 points, second overall and, crucially, the red plate. Fontanesi’s two fourth places gave her 36 points and third overall, level with Van Der Vlist but ahead on the Race 2 result.

The 2026 WMX title will be decided at the final round in Australia, with Guillen six points clear of Fontanesi in what will alreadybe a classic final showdown for the World Title!

Lotte Van Drunen: “A perfect weekend, this is just amazing. I hope I made my home proud, very proud. I am just really happy to be on top. The second race was a bit tough at the end for me, but I did it, and that is what matters for me. A big thank you to everyone, this is awesome.”

Daniela Guillen: “I am really happy. Race 2 was a little bit tense. I started quite well, then I found my rhythm. I had a good battle with Barker, and then I made a mistake and I crashed, and I crashed so hard. But then I had two laps to finish and I said I have to pass Barker, because those two points in the championship are so important for me. So now six points more count for Australia. I want to say thank you to the team, good job, and yeah, happy.”

Kiara Fontanesi: “I feel very, very bad. I have been sick for three days with fever and stomach ache, so I have hardly been eating, and then I was knocked out in time practice on the waves. I hit my head very badly and my neck is so sore that I can’t really move my arms, so I didn’t even know if I would be able to stay on the bike and finish the race. It is difficult to race like this, especially when you come here fighting for a title. But if we look at the weekend and see how things are, for me two fourth places and a podium in this condition is like a victory. Everything is still open, and I will do my best in Australia.”

ARNHEM (The Netherlands) 22nd August 2026 – The 2026 FIM Motocross World Championships returns to the sand of the low countries this weekend, as the Motorsportpark Gelderland Midden venue near the city of Arnhem hosts the MXGP of The Netherlands in the eastern region of the country who can boast the current MXGP World Championship leader as one of their own!

Jeffrey Herlings has a good lead in the premier class, having taken victory in the last 11 individual races, and needless to say he is the favourite to add a 17^th GP win on home ground from his 19^th such event! He is mathematically not assured of the title yet, however, and even with slim hopes, defending World Champion and former Arnhem winner Romain Febvre will not be throwing in the towel from his current runner-up position.  Another Dutch hero, last year’s MX2 Arnhem winner Kay de Wolf, will also get a lot of crowd support, and may have the most hope of anyone to topple his flying compatriot.

The MX2 title chase got closer at the last GP, but Spaniard Guillem Farres still holds the red plate over the rejuvenated Sacha Coenen, and both will struggle to deal with the pace and sand skills of Lommel winner Camden McLellan, who needs to make up points from third in the series! Coenen will attract many Belgian fans to the Dutch trackside horde, and this should set off a firecracker of an atmosphere with fans able to get almost all around the circuit here!

The FIM Women’s Motocross World Championship continues his weekend with a tight power struggle at the top between Italian heroine Kiara Fontanesi and Spanish fighter Daniela Guillen, who won here last year and needs to make up the two-point gap to the leader! However, “The Queen of Sand” Lotte van Drunen, double and defending World Champion, will attract a lot of home support, as will fourth-placed Shana van der Vlist.

The EMX250 European Motocross Championship has the possibility of seeing its Champion crowned as early as Saturday, with Francisco Garcia in prime position to finish his EMX career on a high before heading to MX2 next year!  A future star to watch on the rise!
