LIAM EVERTS JOINS NESTAAN HUSQVARNA FACTORY RACING: GEARED UP FOR MX2 IN 2025

With a fresh start and new race number, 26, Liam Everts is ready to make his mark in an exciting chapter of his motocross career.

Nestaan Husqvarna Factory Racing is excited to announce that Liam Everts, one of motocross’ brightest young talents, will join the team for the 2025 MX2 season. Everts will race alongside reigning MX2 World Champion Kay de Wolf, forming a duo that promises to take the FIM MX2 Motocross World Championship by storm.

Liam Everts, aged 20, hailing from Hasselt in Belgium, carries a prestigious motocross pedigree as the son of ten-time world champion Stefan Everts and the grandson of four-time world champion Harry Everts. While his family’s legacy has undoubtedly shaped his early career, Liam’s own accomplishments are now speaking for themselves.

In 2021, Liam made his MX2 debut at the Grand Prix of Sardinia, where he quickly began to establish himself as a force to be reckoned with. The next season, in 2022,  Everts’ determination saw him secure a top-10 finish in the MX2 World Championship.

Building on this momentum in 2023, Liam fiercely challenged Andrea Adamo for the world title until a major crash at the penultimate round interrupted his campaign. Despite this setback, 2023 was a breakout year for Everts. He captured Grand Prix victories in Germany, the Netherlands, and Turkey, firmly establishing himself on the world stage. By season’s end, he had secured fourth place overall in the MX2 World Championship - proving he’s ready to step out from his family’s shadow and make his own mark.

The 2024 season saw Everts demonstrate his incredible raw speed once more, securing back-to-back Grand Prix victories in Trentino and Portugal before an unfortunate injury prematurely ended his season. Now, on his way to full fitness, Everts is ready to enter a new chapter with Husqvarna in 2025, where he will be racing on the Husqvarna FC250.

#26 - Liam Everts: "I'm super happy to join Nestaan Husqvarna Factory Racing - they’re a great group of people, and it’s an exciting new challenge. I’ve spent a lot of time with them in the past, so I feel really good about this move. My motivation to take on a fresh challenge is really high; I definitely needed a change. We both want to win - that’s the ultimate goal. We want to become world champions. We’ll see how everything goes with me coming back from injury, but we’ll take it step by step and see what the speed is like once I’m back on the bike. This opportunity also felt like the perfect time to change my race number – new team, new colors, new number! After the accident, a lot changed, and now it felt like the right time to start something of my own. My family has been super supportive. It feels like an exciting, fresh chapter in my career!"

Rasmus Jorgensen - Nestaan Husqvarna Factory Team Manager: “We’re super excited to have Liam join the Nestaan Husqvarna Factory Racing team. His talent, dedication, and strong work ethic make him a perfect fit for our program. With the unfortunate injury he sustained in China, the first and only priority right now is to get him back on the bike without any limitations whatsoever. With Kay [de Wolf], the reigning MX2 World Champion, as his teammate, we’re confident that this duo will continue to push themselves, each other, and our team forward, ultimately creating an exciting dynamic that will bring us great highlights in 2025! Let’s go TEAM!”

VALERIO LATA JOINS TEAM HRC MX2 PROGRAMME FOR 2025

Valerio Lata has joined Team HRC in a multi-year deal that’ll see him ride the Honda CRF250R alongside fellow Italian Ferruccio Zanchi in the MX2 class for 2025. The 19-year-old has had a few wildcard MX2 rides so far in his career – including a third place at the 2024 MXGP of Italy – but the 2025 campaign will mark his first full season in the class and one that is filled with potential.

As well as that podium effort in Maggiora, Lata also narrowly missed out on the 2024 EMX250 title, after taking a number of moto wins and overall victories. This was a continuation of an extremely impressive career to date, that saw him become 85cc World Champion in 2019, European 125cc Champion in 2021 and Italian Champion on two separate occasions. He has shown immense promise since he arrived in the GP paddock and it is a mark of intent from Team HRC that they were able to add him to their roster for 2025.

Last season, the MX2 programme was relaunched with Zanchi as the sole rider, and the rookie put in some excellent results that resulted in a top 10 championship standing. For this coming year, as the programme gathers pace, it was decided that second-rider was needed to continue that momentum and really show what the Honda CRF250R was capable of. Two riders, with a lot of potential, give Honda double the chances of success and show future riders that there is a real pathway to victory with the brand.

Now though, the present will see Lata and Zanchi in MX2, with five-time world champion Tim Gajser and Ruben Fernandez in the MXGP class, in what is the strongest squad of riders for Team HRC in a number of years. All four riders are currently training hard, getting themselves in shape for what should be a tough, 20-round season in the World Motocross Championships, which will get underway in Cordoba, Argentina on March 1st.

Valerio Lata

It is a great honour to be joining Team HRC for the 2025 season, in preparation for what will be my first full-time MX2 season. As a kid, you always know the history of the riders that rode for HRC and it is a privilege to be joining that list now. Last year, they re-started with the Honda CRF250R programme and they had some good results with Ferruccio (Zanchi), so I knew that I would have a good bike and a good setup and now I hope I can help them with even more top results. It is a very professional team who know how to win, and I can’t wait to get started.

Yuzuru Ishikawa

HRC Executive Director

Signing Valerio is another important step for Team HRC because it shows that we are building and improving our Honda CRF250R programme. Last season Ferruccio Zanchi did a great job, finishing in the top 10 of the MX2 championship, and now by bringing in Valerio we want to have more good finishes and more possibilities of showing the strength of the CRF250R. Valerio has had a lot of success as a younger rider, winning some very impressive titles and races and it will be exciting to see what he can achieve with the backing of Team HRC.

Marcus Pereira de Freitas

HRC General Manager - MXGP

We are all very excited to have Valerio Lata joining us at Team HRC. He is a rider who we’ve been following the progress of, for a number of years and when the opportunity came for us to be able to sign him, we knew we had to take it. He has won a lot of titles throughout his career, and even this year, he got a podium in Maggiora on a wildcard ride in MX2, so we know that he has the speed. Now, we have the winter to get him settled on the bike and put in some good training, so that come the first round in Argentina, he will be right up to pace. With him and Ferruccio, it is a very exciting time for our CRF250R development and one that we are looking forward to.

STEFAN EVERTS – HIS OPINION

The greatest Grand Prix rider of all time, Stefan Everts holds the sport of motocross close to his heart. His 10 World motocross championship and 101 Grand Prix victories are what made him great, but he continues to watch Grand Prix with excitement, and obviously with his son Liam racing in the MX2 class and being a multiple GP winner himself, the interest by the legendary Belgian has risen in recent years.

While many of the current MX2 riders have a technique that is in fact, better than any era before, their speed is also something that makes Everts excited for the future, as the pyramid of Infront (EMX/MX2/MXGP) see’s young European riders advancing at a very rapid rate.

“I think the level of MX2 is extremely high,” Everts said. “And if you look at the difference in times from MXGP, at some GPs, there is nearly no difference in the times. It often takes a while for the MXGP riders to get to the times of the MX2 riders and then finally, go a bit faster. For me, the time difference in the past was two seconds, it isn’t two seconds anymore. There are a lot of good riders in there and they are pushing each other to be better and be on their limits. It is great to see the talent there.”

What does upset “The King” is the fact young riders sometimes make dangerous decisions and in the sport of motocross, a mistake like that, can be very harmful to that rider, but also the riders around him. As a clean racer from the past, Everts would like to see more MX2 riders being a little more careful in the heat of the moment.

“All these GP riders, they are an example, for the young kids who are racing, the new generation that will come up. Those young kids, they should not be trained, or school in things, which are not normal. Our sport needs to be fare racing and not T-bones and cross jumping, or going left to right when passing, or in the start. Our sport is dangerous, and it shouldn’t be made more dangerous from these types of moves. Just be more aware of the risk you are putting people in. It is a risky sport and don’t go into that grey zone, to make it more risky.”

Let’s hope the young kids who are in EMX or MX2 follow the lead of our greatest GP racer, because injuries have cost the sport time and time again and while racing hard is important, the most important thing in racing, is to race fair. We all love a close battle, and we have seen enough of that over the years, but the injuries we have seen stay with us and the families that are involved in our great sport.
