CALENDAR UPDATE : MXGP EXPANDS TO FIVE CONTINENTS IN 2026 WITH SOUTH AFRICA RETURN IN JULY

MONACO (Principality of Monaco) 22 December 2025 — Infront Moto Racing is thrilled to announce that MXGP will return to South African soil for the first time in 18 years, as Johannesburg is set to host, at the Terra Topia Motocross Track, the MXGP of South Africa on 4–5 July 2026, bringing the FIM Motocross World Championship back to the African continent.

This will be marking a major addition to the overseas segment of the championship and truly bring MXGP to five continents. This return represents a significant moment for MXGP, renewing a long-standing connection between the series and South Africa. The country first welcomed the World Championship in 1985, when a 250cc Grand Prix was held at Corobrik Park near Johannesburg, won by Jacky Vimond. MXGP later returned with three consecutive rounds at Sun City between 2004 and 2006, producing Grand Prix winners such as legends such Stefan Everts, a rising Antonio Cairoli, Josh Coppins and Mickael Pichon.

The most recent MXGP event in South Africa took place in 2008 at Nelspruit, featuring MX1 and MX2 racing, with victories claimed by Jonathan Barragan and Tommy Searle.

The confirmation of Johannesburg as a 2026 host underlines MXGP’s status as a truly global championship, committed to delivering world-class motocross across multiple continents. The MXGP of South Africa will once again showcase the sport’s elite riders and teams, bringing top-level competition back to a region with deep motocross heritage.

YAMAHA MOTOR EUROPE AND MAXIME RENAUX CONCLUDE DECADE-LONG PARTNERSHIP

Yamaha Motor Europe wishes to formally announce that its partnership with Maxime Renaux has reached its conclusion. A valued member of the Yamaha family for over 10 years, Renaux’s departure marks the end of a highly successful era that saw the Frenchman rise from the junior ranks to the pinnacle of the MXGP class.

Renaux’s journey in blue began on a YZ85, serving as a perfect example of Yamaha’s racing pyramid in action. His world-class potential was first realized in 2015 when he powered his YZ125 to the FIM Junior Motocross 125cc World Title in El Molar, Spain. In that same breakout season, he further cemented his status as a rising star by claiming three EMX125 round victories.

The definitive highlight of the Yamaha-Renaux era came in 2021. In a stunning debut season as a factory rider for the Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MX2 team, Renaux achieved his next dream when he was crowned MX2 World Champion.

Throughout his tenure, Renaux has secured an incredible 19 Grand Prix race wins and 33 podium finishes aboard Yamaha machinery.

Yamaha is immensely grateful to Maxime for his loyalty and for the many milestones achieved together, and on behalf of the entire Yamaha Family, we wish Max the very best of luck in his next chapter.

Alexandre Kowalski

Yamaha Motor Europe Off-Road Racing Manager

"Maxime has been a part of the Yamaha Family for over a decade, and it has been a true pleasure to watch his progression from a talented youngster where he secured his first world title in the 125cc ranks, to a World Champion in the MX2 class, and a consistent MXGP title contender. He embodies the spirit of Yamaha’s racing pyramid, proving that dedication and the right support can lead to the very top of the sport. While we have decided to go our separate ways after 2026, we look back at our shared history with great pride. On behalf of Yamaha Motor Europe, we wish him nothing but the best for his future."

RUBEN FERNANDEZ LEAVES HONDA HRC PETRONAS AFTER SUCCESSFUL STINT

Honda HRC PETRONAS would like to wish Ruben Fernandez all the best in the future, as the Spaniard leaves the team after four successful seasons.

Joining in 2023, after impressing in Honda 114 Motorsports squad, Fernandez made an immediate impact, winning his first GP at the MXGP of Argentina down in Villa La Angostura. He then followed that up with podiums in Spain, Germany and Italy as he finished fifth that year.  An injury-hit campaign meant he was only able to complete four GP in 2024 but he rebounded in 2025 with fourth place in the standings and three more visits to the podium.

The #70 continued to battle at the front of this highly contested MXGP field in 2026, adding another podium and plenty of near-misses, before a crash in Turkiye meant he had to end his season early. It was a shame that he wasn’t able to complete the season as he was on-target for another top five in the championship.

Everyone in the team will miss his presence both on and off the track, and wish him the best of luck for 2027 and beyond.

MXGP 2027 CALENDAR UPDATE: ÁGUEDA CONFIRMED AND SPAIN BECOMES THE MXGP OF EXTREMADURA

MONACO (Principality of Monaco) 15 October 2026 - Infront Moto Racing, together with the FIM, is pleased to announce an update to the 2027 FIM Motocross World Championship calendar. Two updates shape next season: one of the championship's best-loved tracks stays on the schedule, and a new name joins the calendar in western Spain.

Águeda confirmed for the MXGP of Portugal

On 22-23 May, the MXGP of Portugal will be held at Águeda, one of the most iconic circuits of the championship. Águeda hosted its first Grand Prix in 1985, when Dave Strijbos won the 125cc class, and 2027 will mark its 28th World Championship event.

Located in the Aveiro District, around 75 km south of Porto, the circuit is famous for its orange hard-pack dirt, natural amphitheatre and passionate Portuguese crowds. Jeffrey Herlings holds the record for most wins at Águeda with six, while Antonio Cairoli sits behind with five and Stefan Everts has four in the historic of the venue. Recent editions have been just as memorable: Pauls Jonass took his first MXGP overall victory there in 2024, and Lucas Coenen swept the 2025 round.

The MXGP of Spain becomes the MXGP of Extremadura

On 18 April, the second Spanish round of the season becomes the MXGP of Extremadura, staged at Merida. The new name puts the spotlight on the western region of Spain, known for its rich heritage, natural landscapes and growing passion for motorsport. Together with the season opener in Andalucía on 28 February, Spain will once again play a key role in the 2027 series.

THE RING OF CHAMPIONS — THE SEAL OF A SEASON, THE LEGACY OF VICTORY

MONACO (Principality of Monaco) 7 October 2026 – Every season writes a new chapter in the history of motocross.  Through courage, sacrifice and exceptional skill, champions earn the highest honour our sport can bestow. When the final chequered flag falls, the Ring of Champions places an enduring seal upon their achievement.

Born in Ernée in 2015, this tradition began with the vision of Telemaco Cane, a devoted motocross enthusiast whose distinguished background in jewellery brought together artistic sensitivity, technical expertise and a profound appreciation of sporting excellence.  His idea expressed a powerful conviction: a World Championship deserves a lasting, personal tribute, created to preserve the memory of an extraordinary accomplishment. Drawing upon his experience in jewellery design and craftsmanship, Telemaco conceived and created these unique pieces with meticulous attention to detail.  His understanding of precious materials, form and finish gave tangible expression to the courage and dedication of a champion.

Individually crafted in precious silver and personalised with commemorative engravings, each ring carries the memory of a victory and the identity of the rider who earned it.

Initially conceived for the MXGP and MX2 World Champions, the tradition grew to embrace the winning riders of the Monster Energy FIM Motocross of Nations and, subsequently, the WMX World Champion. Its extension to WMX in 2022 marked a significant moment, bringing the same enduring recognition to the pinnacle of women’s motocross.

For the individual World Champions, the ring honours the culmination of a season’s relentless pursuit of excellence.

For the Motocross of Nations winners, it celebrates the exceptional bond between riders who unite their talent and determination in the service of their country.

Its presentation is the ceremonial seal upon the sporting season: a moment in which the intensity of competition gives way to recognition, gratitude and remembrance. Within each ring lives the story of the races contested, the adversity overcome and the ambition fulfilled.

From its origins in Ernée, the Ring of Champions has become a cherished expression of MXGP’s heritage, through Telemaco Cane’s vision and craftsmanship, successive generations of champions are united by a shared symbol of distinction, destined to preserve the memory of their achievements for years to come.

A season reaches its conclusion. A champion’s legacy endures. The Ring of Champions carries that legacy forward.
