RED PLATE HOLDERS PRADO & DE WOLF DOMINATE THE RAM QUALIFYING RACES IN SPAIN

INTU-XANADÚ ARROYOMOLINOS (Spain) 23 March 2024 – It was joy for the Spanish crowd at the first European race of the season as home hero Jorge Prado took his customary holeshot and looked untouchable on his way to a runaway victory in the MXGP RAM Qualifying Race, whilst Kay de Wolf also re-asserted his authority with a decisive early move and withstood further pressure to win in MX2.

The crowd had already been warmed up by a brilliant win for another local hero, Daniela Guillen on her RFME GASGAS MX Junior Team machine, and they made an incredible noise for her as she won the opening race of the season in the WMX Women’s World Motocross Championship.  Then the opening EMX250 encounter saw a great scrap that resulted in victory for Beddini GASGAS MX Juniors rider Valerio Lata of Italy.

Fastest in practice by over half a second, it’s clear that defending World Champion and Red Bull GASGAS Factory Racing team leader Prado was in no mood to be beaten on home ground.  The trademark start technique was only nearly matched by Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MXGP man Maxime Renaux, although Team Ship to Cycle Honda’s rookie Kevin Horgmo rushed into turn two in 2nd place! Romain Febvre for Kawasaki Racing Team and Red Bull KTM Factory Racing star Jeffrey Herlings were mired deep in the pack, and Team HRC’s Tim Gajser had to fight past both Horgmo and Fantic Factory Racing rider Glenn Coldenhoff to get to 3rd at the end of the second lap.

Horgmo then crashed out of 5th and his teammate Valentin Guillod got collected in the incident, as did Standing Construct Honda’s lone ranger Pauls Jonass. Although Horgmo did not finish, all three riders are fine for the start of tomorrow’s Grand Prix races.

Nobody was getting anywhere near to Prado, and Gajser passed Renaux for 2nd at around half-distance, facing an impossible task to haul in the #1 plate holder.  The charge, as usual, came from Herlings.  “The Bullet” had a near-accident in the same corner that claimed Horgmo & co, but found a sweet line in front of the grandstands that was both fast, and kept him on the ground.  This he used to great effect, dispatching Kawasaki Racing Team rider Jeremy Seewer with three laps to go, and then Coldenhoff the very next lap to move up to 4th!  A late charge on Renaux’s third position only just fell short, but the Dutchman certainly has the speed around the Intu-Xanadú Arroyomolinos circuit, if only he could start with Prado.

The Champion extended his series lead by a point to four over Gajser, and Febvre is still third in the points after fighting back to 8th at the chequered flag. He is also leading the way in the Ram Award Experience that will reward the MXGP rider with the most RAM Qualifying Race wins at the end of season.

Jorge Prado: "What to say, I got a good start! IT was my key to get a holeshot and then lead. I've beeen the fastest all day so i had the speed. I push a bit in the first lap and made a good gap. I really enjoyed the last lap too with the fans and on the triple. It's great weekend and happy to start this home weekend in Spain with a win so let's keep it for tomorrow as well"

The MX2 RAM Qualifying Race was holeshot, once again, by Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Sacha Coenen, but Red Bull GASGAS Factory Racing team leader Simon Laengenfelder moved underneath the young Belgian through the third corner, followed by red plate holder De Wolf on the Nestaan Husqvarna Factory Racing machine.

De Wolf wasted no time to rapidly cut under Laengenfelder in the very next corner, and although the German, winner of both GP races here last year, pressured the Dutchman midway through the race, Kay got the hammer down again to pull clear and win by just over three seconds at the flag.

Behind them, Laengenfelder’s teammate Rossi battled past Sacha Coenen early, as F&H Kawasaki rookie Quentin Prugnieres moved Andrea Adamo wide by the Pit Lane, allowing the Champion’s Red Bull KTM Factory Racing teammate Liam Everts through into 5th as he passed them both!

With three laps to go, after Sacha Coenen has been dropped down to 8th, Everts made a forceful move on Rossi to claim 3rd place, a fine return after missing the Argentina opener due to pre-season injury.

A mighty battle ensued behind them, as Rossi, Adamo, Lucas Coenen for Nestaan Husvarna Factory Racing, and Monster Energy Triumph Racing’s Mikkel Haarup all fought over 4th place! Lucas just emerged on top in that battle and Haarup completed a masterful charge through from 10th to claim 5th at the line.

De Wolf celebrated in style and extended his Championship lead to 7 points over Laengenfelder.  Tomorrow’s races promise some absolute fireworks as the battle for the title continues!

Kay de Wolf: "It was a good Qualifying! At the start I tried to push a little bit wide but I went quickly up to second and then to first. I'm really happy about my riding and I just controlled it. Tomorrow we'll have an extra 10 more minutes so an extra 10 minutes where I can show my physicality"

WORLDWIDE TV COVERAGE – TUNE IN TO SEE THE MXGP OF SPAIN ON YOUR LOCAL STATION

ARROYOMOLINOS (Spain) 22 March 2024 – The 2024 FIM Motocross World Championship sweeps onto European shores for the first time as the intu-Xanadú Arroyomolinos circuit near Madrid hosts the second round in front of what is sure to be a passionate and plentiful crowd of Spanish fans ready to cheer on their own World Champion, and urge perhaps the next one to victory in the opening round of the WMX Women’s World Motocross Championships! Spanish teenager Daniela Guillen takes her RFME GASGAS MX Junior Team machine towards her aim of going one better then her 2nd-placed finish here in 2022.  Defending Champion Courtney Duncan will be tough to beat for F&H Racing Kawasaki, at a track where she has always walked away with the 1st place trophy!

The 2024 season sees the reigning World MXGP Champion Jorge Prado trying to defend the #1 plate he wears for Red Bull GASGAS Factory Racing, and he started in fine style with the overall Grand Prix win at the opener in Argentina, taking a three-point lead into this second round. Equai in 2nd is Team HRC’s Tim Gajser and Romain Febvre for the Kawasaki Racing Team, and in fact the entire top five in the points standings is filled with former World Champions.

Standing Construct Honda rider Pauls Jonass put in a great day in Argentina to currently lie in 4th, whilst Maxime Renaux sits in 5th for the Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MXGP Team.  The big surprise is that Red Bull KTM Factory Racing talisman Jeffrey Herlings is currently 7th in the points, but will enjoy the feel-good memories from last year, when he broke the all-time GP win record at this weekend’s Spanish circuit.

The MX2 World Championship saw some incredible racing in Argentina, with the podium positions changing in the last few corners of all three races across the weekend, with Kay de Wolf of Nestaan Husqvarna Factory Racing collecting his second career GP win.  His teammate Lucas Coenen won the RAM Qualifying Race last time around but crashed out of race one on Sunday!  Look for the Belgian teenage firebrand to strike back in Spain!

Simon Laengenfelder won both Sunday races for Red Bull GASGAS Factory Racing in Spain last season, and maintained his habit of winning race one in Argentina.  Will he finally be able to seal the overall GP win at  intu-Xanadú Arroyomolinos? Thibault Benistant, Rick Elzinga, and Andrea Bonacorsi for Monster Energy Yamaha Factory Racing MX2, and young star Ferruccio Zanchi for the new MX2 Team HRC effort will be looking to build on steady starts to the season.

The new Monster Energy Triumph Racing team shocked everybody by taking a podium finish on its very first attempt in Argentina, and their Danish charger Mikkel Haarup looks ready to take the sleek black TF 250-X machine onto another podium visit in the country where the team spent most of its winter!

Along with the opening round of WMX, the EMX250 series also fires into life this weekend, and you can watch all of the action on MXGP TV LIVE and uninterrupted.

Also supplying the LIVE broadcast, among many others, are TV3 in Spain, Champions TV, Moji, and Vidio in Indonesia.  MXGP will also be welcoming CBS viewers in the USA with delayed second race coverage.

MXGP FIRST OUTING IN EUROPE WITH THE MXGP OF SPAIN THIS WEEKEND

MONACO (Principality of Monaco) 20 March 2024 – As the flight cases have made their way back from the MXGP season opener in Argentina, the 2024 FIM Motocross World Championship launches into Europe for the first time, to intu Xanadú – Arroyomolinos for the MXGP of Spain!

The hard-pack circuit in Arroyomolinos, close to the Spanish capital of Madrid, was first introduced to the MXGP calendar in the pandemic year of 2020, and instantly the local fans got their wish with an overall win for their hero Jorge Prado, only his second in the MXGP class at the time!

Fast forward four years and that home hero, now racing for Red Bull GASGAS Factory Racing, is now the reigning MXGP World Champion, and carries the fabled #1 plate with a red background to his native country as the series leader, following his victory at the YPF Infinia MXGP of Argentina.

This circuit has seen two overall wins for Jeffrey Herlings on the Red Bull KTM Factory Racing team, and last year was a historic one as he broke the all-time record for Grand Prix wins with his 102nd career victory.  “The Bullet” goes into this round only 7th in the World Championship and looking to make up some of the 22-point deficit to Prado, who has four other World Champions immediately behind him in the table!

This time around we will also see the opening rounds of the FIM Women’s Motocross World Championship and the EMX250 Championship, with last year’s WMX Silver Medallist Daniela Guillen providing the Spanish fans with another home hero to cheer for on the RFME GASGAS MX Junior Team, as she looks to go one better than her 2022 overall finish of 2nd overall after a loudly-hailed second race win! She has a tough task ahead of her though as reigning World Champion and F&H Racing Team debutant Courtney Duncan has won all three WMX GPs at the venue!

Jorge Prado equalled the record of legendary Belgian racer Eric Geboers with his 39th career Grand Prix win in Spain, and looks to be riding a wave of confidence as he regained the red plate on Sunday after losing it to Team HRC’s Tim Gajser following the Slovenian’s win in Sunday’s RAM Qualifying Race.  Gajser has not won a GP race yet at intu-Xanadu Arroyomolinos, and will be out to stop Prado from pulling away any more than the three points between them right now.

Level with Tim in the standings is Kawasaki Racing Team’s Romain Febvre, and despite his obvious hard track prowess the Frenchman also hasn’t had the best of times around the Spanish circuit, with just one race win here back in 2021, and of course suffered a massive first corner crash on Saturday that left him with no points from the event in 2023.

The only former World Champion not on a full factory team, Pauls Jonass, nonetheless scored a fantastic weekend in Argentina to lie 4th in points for Standing Construct Honda. The Latvian  is suddenly right in the mix and has genuine podium prospects in a country that he has won in, back in 2018 at Red Sand.

Maxime Renaux of Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MXGP is the only rider to have won in both classes at this circuit, having taken MX2 victory in 2021 on his way to the world title that year, and a maximum double race win in 2022.  Last year’s visit was not so sweet, however, as he picked up the foot injury that put him our for most of the season.

Looking to bounce back into form on home turf, after being forced to miss Sunday’s races in Argentina, is the next big Spanish talisman Ruben Fernandez of Team HRC.  A lower leg injury picked up in a first corner incident has been worked on and he will be pressing for his first points of 2024.  Standing Construct Hondaman Alberto Forato is in the same situation after problems with a haematoma kept him out of the opening races.  Josh Gilbert also returns for Gabriel SS24 KTM after crashing heavily out of Saturday’s race and has allowed an elbow injury to heal up in time for Spain.

Sadly we will not see Brent van Doninck of JM Racing Honda or Jago Geerts for Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MXGP due to their injuries from Patagonia.  We wish them both all the best with their recovery.

MXGP - World Championship Top 10 Classification: 1. Jorge Prado (ESP, GAS), 54 Points; 2. Tim Gajser (SLO, HON), 51 Points; 3. Romain Febvre (FRA, KAW), 51 Points ; 4. Pauls Jonass (LAT, HON), 46 Pts; 5. Maxime Renaux (FRA, YAM), 39 Pts.; 6. Jeremy Seewer (SUI, KAW), 34 Pts; 7. Jeffrey Herlings (NED, KTM), 34 Pts; 8. Glenn Coldenhoff (NED, FAN), 28 Pts; 9. Argentina saw total domination for Nestaan Husqvarna Factory Racing as Lucas Coenen won the RAM Qualifying Race on Saturday, then his teammate Kay de Wolf completed stunning charges in each of Sunday’s races to finish as the overall Grand Prix winner and the new MX2 World Championship leader.

MX2 saw the younger stars of the sport absolutely lay it on the line in a sequence of thrilling races, and the Spanish round should be no different as the hard-pack specialists look to take advantage before the season heads to the sands of Sardegna for round three. Neither of the men in white shone here in 2023, so the chasing pack is full of hope!

Red Bull GasGas Factory Racing’s Simon Laengenfelder would have been frustrated to not win the overall in Patagonia, as the German won the first race of a Grand Prix for the last five rounds in 2023, and did so again in South America! As with the last four rounds of last year, however, he could not convert that into a GP win, and lies just six points shy of De Wolf in the Championship.  He should be full of confidence heading to intu Xanadu-Arroyomolinos though, as he won both of Sunday’s races with authority last year.  With the feel-good buzz sure to surround his team due to Prado’s presence, Simon will once more look for perfection on the Iberian Peninsula!

Third in the table with a steady 40-point haul in Argentina was Thibault Benistant for Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MX2, and the Frenchman just missed the podium here last year so he will be looking to get up there! He was denied in 2023 by eventual World Champion Andrea Adamo, who lies 5th in the standings for Red Bull KTM Factory Racing.

The revelation of Argentina was doubtlessly the pace of Mikkel Haarup for the brand new Monster Energy Triumph Racing team, as a fine 2nd in race two on Sunday put the new British machine onto the podium in its very first Grand Prix! Both the Dane and his 10th-placed teammate Camden McLellan have been training in Spain throughout the winter, so they will feel at home this weekend!

The Spanish brand that is Red Bull GASGAS Factory Racing will look for more from its rookie sensation Marc-Antoine Rossi, who nearly won his first full Grand Prix race before a small crash, and a poor second moto left him 6th in the Championship.  He too, likes the Spanish terrain!  Local riders to look out for this weekend include the WZ Racing Team’s Oriol Oliver, and Fantic Factory Racing MX2 pilot David Braceras.

The series will also welcome back one of its stars from 2023, as Liam Everts hopes to have recovered enough from his injured thumb to join the fray for Red Bull KTM Factory Racing.

INSIDE MXGP: NO PAIN, NO GAIN!

Breaking away from the polished façade of podium celebrations, this rad new YouTube series "Inside MXGP" delves deep into the inner workings of the MXGP paddock. It promises a raw, unfiltered, all-access look behind the scenes, revealing the mud, sweat and tears that are part and parcel of life in racing.

The first episode, titled "No Pain, No Gain," sheds light on the brutal challenges faced by the Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MXGP and MX2 teams at the 2024 FIM Motocross World Championship season opener in Villa La Angostura, Argentina.

Jago Geerts appeared set for a strong debut in his MXGP career, having clocked the seventh-fastest time in Timed Practice. Yet fate had other plans, and during the Qualifying Race on Saturday afternoon, Geerts was cleaned out in a racing incident at turn one before casing a jump and going over the ‘bars on lap two. This heavy blow underscored the unpredictable nature and physical demands of racing at an elite level, resulting in the 23-year-old Belgian sustaining a broken right collarbone and a fractured left elbow.

While setbacks are a tough pill to swallow, these gnarly challenges often serve as an opportunity for growth and character development. Maxime Renaux is proof of this, having faced numerous injuries throughout his career, including an insane foot injury in 2023. While the phrase “no pain, no gain” may sound cliché, for those in MXGP it is their way of life. Renaux's mind-blowing fifth-place finish in Argentina showed a glimpse of his lionheart and underscores a gritty narrative shared by teammate Calvin Vlaanderen, who returned from injury with ninth overall.

“It was a really tough weekend in Argentina,” Renaux explained. ”We weren’t 100% coming in, and this track has a lot of G-force, which puts a lot of pressure on our feet. For me, it was not easy with my right foot still not 100%, but I dug deep and gave everything I had.”

At the same time, Thibault Benistant, Rick Elzinga, and Andrea Bonacorsi in MX2 faced trials and tribulations of their own. Although each of their challenges differed, their conviction was the same: without struggle, there would be no strength, growth, or glory.

“I was already happy to make it to Argentina,” Elzinga said, “I’ve only had three-weeks on the bike, so the fact that I made it there and could race on a high level, I am happy about. I had some arm-pump, which was expected, but throughout the weekend, I felt better and better. I had three good starts and put in some consistent laps, which is a good place to start under the circumstances.”

Watch the highs and lows of the MXGP season opener, including GoPro footage from Geerts’ crash that forced him out of round one, here. (https://youtu.be/p53OZQ_aF4A)

Keep an eye out for the next episode of “Inside MXGP,” which will be posted after EVERY round of MXGP in 2024 on Yamaha Racing’s YouTube channel. (www.youtube.com/channel/UCD-JNBXfy-cjlmljsLrJ3nA?sub_confirmation=1)

JORGE PRADO AND KAY DE WOLF TAKE HARD FOUGHT VICTORIES IN PATAGONIA ARGENTINA

VILLA LA ANGOSTURA (Patagonia-Argentina) 10 March 2024 – After the teasing tasters of Saturday’s RAM Qualifying Races, the YPF INFINIA MXGP of Patagonia-Argentina served up the main course of the Grand Prix races to really get the 2024 MXGP World Championship underway in style. The beautiful but brutal Villa La Angostura circuit has a unique surface that requires maximum concentration, and its unpredictable nature helped to make the opening round of the season a particularly dramatic one.

Ultimately, it saw victory in MXGP for Red Bull GASGAS Factory Racing talisman and reigning MXGP World Champion Jorge Prado, who will re-attach the red plates that were put briefly into the container after finishing 4th in Saturday's RAM Qualifying Race.

The MX2 class provided some brilliant racing throughout the weekend, with all three races seeing changes in the top three right up to the very last few corners!  With sheer determination to never stop charging, the overall win went to Nestaan Husqvarna Factory Racing’s Kay de Wolf, who also takes the red plate from his teammate Lucas Coenen, who had a rollercoaster of a day after going in as Championship leader.

Whilst running a white background on his number plate for the first time since the very beginning of last year, Jorge Prado put his number 1 machine into the lead immediately with a trademark FOX Holeshot in race one, and even though the Monster Energy Yamaha of Maxime Renaux sneaked past into turn two, with Kawasaki Racing Team’s Romain Febvre following him through, the Champion was having none of it and by the end of the first section of big jumps he was back in control!

Even with all the pre-race talk of the six World Champions in the field, it was still amazing to see them all fill the top six at the start of the opening event! RAM Qualifying Race winner Tim Gajser had an eventful first few laps for Team HRC, and battled with the Standing Construct Honda of Pauls Jonass, who was right on the pace all weekend.  After passing the Latvian, Tim suddenly slid sideways in a corner and lost the position, before tipping over in the very next corner and dropping from 5th to 13th!

The sole representative for Red Bull KTM Factory Racing in MXGP, Jeffrey Herlings, didn’t enjoy the boost in position for long as he fell at the exact same spot as Gajser a few laps later! He would recover to finish 8th at the flag.  Nearly halfway through, Febvre made a move to demote his countryman Renaux from 2nd, but couldn’t make any dent into Prado’s lead. Gajser battled back to 5th, nearly catching Renaux on the last lap, with Jonass 3rd behind Febvre and the winner Prado.

Race two saw Maxime Renaux claim the FOX Holeshot award but he would never lead again after running wide, allowing Gajser to move to the front, and as with the RAM Qualifying Race the Slovenian was able to establish an early gap that he would never relinquish.  All the action happened behind him as Jonass started in 2nd, but that uphill right-hand hairpin caused more trouble as Prado railed around the Latvian into 2nd on lap one, just as Renaux tried to move inside them and fell doing so!  The Frenchman had to fight back, eventually to 6th.

Febvre moved past Jonass on the second lap, putting himself into the top three for good and not just in the race, but in the overall reckoning as well.  At half-distance, there was an all-Dutch freight train as a slow-starting Herlings caught Fantic Racing’s Glenn Coldenhoff and Monster Energy Yamaha MXGP new boy Calvin Vlaanderen. The Bullet managed to shoot them both but had to give way to Renaux’s late charge and finish in 7th.

Kawasaki Racing Team’s own debutant, Jeremy Seewer,  took a solid 5th to go with his race one 7th, and the all-World Champion top four of Gajser, Prado, Febvre, and Jonass stayed in that order to the flag, although the Spaniard tangled with a lapped rider to raise his heart rate somewhat in the closing laps!

This left Jorge Prado to claim his 39th overall Grand Prix victory, equalling the great Eric Geboers  for 7th in the all-time GP winner’s list and returning him to the top of the MXGP standings.  Febvre’s 2nd overall ahead of Gajser left him level with the Slovenian in the championship, both just three points behind the leader as they head to his home territory in Spain!

Jorge Prado “Yeah, it was. It was a very good weekend, very good races today. First one I started 2nd and I passed Maxime (Renaux) very quickly. Yesterday I lost so much time behind him so I knew I had to make the pass straight away. And that's what I did. And then, you know, Seewer was just behind me all the time. And we were putting a very good pace till the end. It was a good race win. Second race I had a better start to be honest, but I lost it in the corner. I was too cautious and then Tim (Gajser) got me from the inside. He was there at the front and we rode the same pace the whole time. We were riding a good pace. I was riding very smooth all day. I didn't make any mistakes so I'm very happy. Couldn't ask  for a better start to the year.  it's super cool to go back to Spain and be home for the first round.

Romain Febvre: “I'm happy to start the season like this for sure. You know, I didn't expect anything coming here, but we I have been working on few things the last few weeks. Speed was really good all weekend. Which I was missing before, so it’s great to get started like this. I didn't win a race, but to finish second overall on my favourite track, that makes me happy. It’s important to be consistent and I didn't make any mistake, except in the second race when I was behind Jorge and tried to close the gap with 5 laps to go, I actually had a massive scare and went almost over the bar. So then I said oh! You know, let the experience talk and make sure to not make any more mistakes and finished well.

Tim Gajser: “It actually was a good day, you know. First race, I didn't have the best start and then I tried maybe too much, too early. You know, the races are long. We have 35 minutes. So I was doing a little mistakes and then one was costly. Quite costly as I crashed and then went back slowly to build the momentum and I start to make nice passes and was only good enough to come home with the 5th place. Second one, I got a much better start. I was leading from beginning Jorge and Romain. They were pushing behind me. We had a really good pace. But yeah, I'm happy that I managed to win the second one and to start the season with the podium.  I think starts are really important this year because everybody is super fast. It's not easy to pass. I’ve been working a lot on the starts and hopefully we can get some more starts like that in the next rounds and it's going to help.”

Lucas Coenen had said after Saturday’s RAM Qualifying Race win that he didn’t want to think about his first red plate too much, and as he moved past Red Bull GASGAS Factory Racing rookie Marc-Antoine Rossi and his Fox Holeshot winning brother Sacha Coenen, it didn’t look like the #96 was riding tight.  However, just after fending off a retaliation from Rossi, he tucked the front wheel and fell awkwardly in a right-hand sweeper.  Nursing a thumb injury, he rode slowly into the pits and retired from the first race altogether.

This left Rossi in the lead and loving the fact that although it looks like a sandy surface, away from the berms it is very much like a hard-pack circuit to race on. De Wolf still looked at home and despite running off-track briefly, he picked up a position as Sacha Coenen fell in turn one after four laps.

Sacha’s Red Bull KTM Factory Racing teammate, Andrea Adamo, had started badly and could only work his way up to 8th at the end, behind his rookie compatriot Ferruccio Zanchi of Team HRC. Sacha Coenen recovered well to finish 6th.

Mikkel Haarup had put his crash-infested RAM Qualifying Race behind him to claim 5th for Monster Energy Triumph Racing in their first full-length GP race!  In the last third of the race, Rossi fell on the final corner of the 11th lap to lose the lead to Monster Energy Yamaha MX2 team leader Thibault Benistant! Rossi’s teammate at Red Bull GASGAS Factory Racing, Simon Laengenfelder also nipped past, then carved inside the Frenchman to win the first race for the sixth straight GP in MX2! Rossi tried to pass Benistant on the final lap, but fell as he span sideways and clipped the chasing De Wolf!  Amazingly, the Dutchman dived up the inside of Benistant to claim 2nd on the very last corner of the race!

In race two, Mikkel Haarup stuck a major feather in the cap of his new bike as he gunned the Triumph into the lead to take the Fox Holeshot Award! He kept the lead for four laps as Laengenfelder caught up to him and nearly wiped out his back wheel!

The German’s mistake allowed Lucas Coenen, fighting through the pain barrier, into 2nd place, and then the Belgian launched his Husqvarna past Haarup’s Triumph to take the lead!

Lucas’ all-action style cost him dearly though as he run off the track and lost those two places again, just after Laengenfelder had finally got around Haarup. Amazingly, the Belgian was back into the lead on lap eleven with a brilliant outside-to-inside move around the long and choppy second corner!  The German faded, and for the fifth straight GP could not convert his first race win into an overall GP victory, finishing 4th in the race for 2nd overall.

Adamo would this time get up to 5th, to take that position in the overall Grand Prix, ahead of Zanchi, Rossi, Sacha Coenen, and Haarup’s teammate Camden McLellan. Rick Elzinga rounded out the top ten overall for Monster Energy Yamaha MX2.

De Wolf was once more on the charge, pulling a stunning move on Haarup who did not give up easily!  This made it a Nestaan Husqvarna Factory Racing 1-2, but Lucas Coenen dropped the bike in the same corner that he lost the lead on earlier in the race, and again dropped to 3rd just two corners from the chequered flag! This gave Kay De Wolf the race win, his second career GP win, and the Championship lead to take back to Europe!

Kay de Wolf “It was a good weekend. I felt really good actually and I’m really happy with the bike with the bike. So I really enjoyed it. And yeah, it’s a good weekend for me as I build it up the whole weekend, so it paid off in the end.  It's cool to have the red plate, but it doesn't really mean anything at the moment. We still have 19 GP's to go, so a long time before then, so I'm just going to have fun and keep enjoying every single weekend.  The Husqvarna Factory Team did a great job this winter on the bike and I feel really at one with it. So I'm going to enjoy every single race from now on.”

Simon Laengenfelder: “I was feeling also great on a track like this and a venue like this  it's very beautiful also with all the nature around here and it's a great place to come. So I enjoyed a lot riding here. The first race was of course a little bit better than the second, I would say. I took my time and then passed everyone to get to the front and win. The second one I was feeling also great but after the halfway point the track got a little bit tough and I closed the gas a little bit. I would say was it was a great preparation and I enjoyed every minute of it. And for me riding motocross is the best thing there is. So yeah, I'm just enjoying.”

Mikkel Haarup: “I Guess we are a new manufacturer, so to start off with the podium is perfect. I think we couldn't ask for much more especially with the qualifying race I had yesterday. It made a little bit more difficult today for sure, but we knew we had the speed to be in the top three so. I was happy to be able to show it and also for the team to be able to showcase their bike here in the in the first round. The bike is quite easy for me to set up. I felt comfortable when I tried it the first time and I had an injury last year so I didn't spend a whole lot of time on the bike in the second-half of the season, but when I stepped on the bike in October, we put in a lot of work, a lot of hours. Because I was definitely off pace. But as the month went by, we started picking up pace and by the preseason races we felt like we could really compete. I'm very pleased and happy with the with the way that it went and the way that I'm feeling on the bike as well.
